Classic dark sugary sweet alcohol aroma. The taste is full, rich, and malty. Lots of chocolate and roasted malt flavors. The body is full but creamy. This is really one of the best Baltic Porters you’ll find, with all the classic Eastern European characteristics built onto a solid quality grain bill. Top notch. fiver29 (726), Cleveland, Ohio, USA

Has a medium mouthfeel with a black body. Smells like a full body brew with heavy hops. Tastes like I am getting a hop blast with some leather and earth. Overall a nice brew. mwelsh13 (483), Maryland, USA

Alot of chocolate and some espresso in the aroma. A bit of grassy hop bitterness followed by a rich body of deep malt and caramel flavor. A bit of bitterness at the swallow as well as some dryness finish off this good beer. JPDIPSO (4926), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Feb 18, 2008 Near black, with what appears to be a hint of ruby. Huge thick, lasting dark khaki foam with nice lace. Tropical fruit mix with chocolate malt, hint of tar, dates, treacle, sweet espresso and light wintergreen. Aroma seems a bit green, but it’s quite interesting. Big sweet toasted and roasted malt flavors. Hints of lactose. As in the nose an herbal hops component. Some peat and lightly earthy coffee as well. Slick and smooth in feel. I’m trying to think how it could improve in feel and I can’t come up with anything. Finish is dry with some sweet licorice and tar. Linger gets sweeter with a return to some sticky malt and a touch of hops and bit of pine. Good stuff. hopscotch (5507), Vero Beach, Florida, USA

Pitch black lager with a mid-sized, creamy, khaki-colored, everlasting head. The aroma is a swirl of rich, roasted nuts, creamed coffee and dark chocolate. Full-bodied and velvety with tingly carbonation. Chocolaty, deeply roasted, medium bitter finish. Smuttynose continues to be one of the most solid, yet least talked-about, breweries out there. This world class bottle of beer was popped open by mgumby10. Thanks for sharing! Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA

Great burnt malt aroma with rich, quality chocolate and tons of bitterness and a sturdy head. Flavors both hoppy and roasty with dry cocoa in the finish. I hope this beer finds its way into every beer lovers hands because it FUCKIN ROCKS! CamdenD (606), Madrid, Spain
