Slightly hazy, amber/bronze, with good moderate lacing. Notes produced by rich malt/hop combinations, with grapefruit and a smoke-tinged bottom. There is a good zing on the palate that the bitterness generates. Not bad at all.

cloudy orange brown with floaties & a fat ass head. dry vodka smell. surprisingly smooth creamy caramel with a minimal hop presence. a shockingly clean mouthfeel. a bit of pepper at the finish, but not much.

Bottle. Very, very musty smells like an old book. Quite bitter on the front end, very bitter for a barleywine. Very low key sweetness. Almost numbs the tongue. Fruity, dirty finish.

I drank a 22 ounce bomber while home brewing. Heavy fruit (apple) and alcohol nose. Thanks to its low bubbles had an iced tea appearance. At first the cold beer had an overbearing alcohol taste. However, as the barley wine warmed the taste became sweeter. Mild hop bitterenss, but a buxom mouthfeel. Drinking 22 ounces gave me a numbing effect.

22 oz bomber. I drink this and feel good inside. The struggle within of the barleywine’s power. Smuttynose’s barleywine impresses me and makes me happy. Delucious

desert barleywine as compared to many west coastal ones. apricot, figs, mouthcoating, sweet finish. not always my preference, but I sure enjoyed this one.

Pours dark copper/ruby, with a big, creamy off-white head. Aroma of malt, hops, fruit. Not as strong or pronounced in aroma as the Stone OG or JW Lees. Tastes malty, with big hops, some sour dark fruit. Palate is medium and firm, with a slightly sour finish. As far as I’m concerned, this one is more like an I2PA (similar to Avery Hog Heaven). As an I2PA, I’d rate it around a 3.9-4.0....as a barleywine, I stand behind my 3.7 score......which is still a very good score.

Sweet aroma and flavor. Very chewy body, just right on the tongue. Finishes bitter. Ripe fruity notes are subtle, but present. Good stuff.
