a mahogony colored pour w/ a thick off white head ok lacing. Smells of a large hop front w/ a nice sweet malt backbone hints of oranges and light spices. Palate is full and creamy fairly well carbonated. Flavor is a bitter grass hop a light carmel malt hints of alcohol not much else this may improve w/ some aging to mellow and blend it out better. Overall a decent beer but not great. Thanks to Dave for sharing.

bottle-2006. Man, this one suprised me. I was expecting something pretty bad gauged buy "friends" ratings of this beer. lightly hazy bright amber with a small smooth small bubble head. carmel, earthy hops, light must, and alchohol on the nose. Pretty interesting nose, even if its pretty simple for a barleywine. big carmel fruity malts on the start of the flavors, which are dried out by a wonderful earthy and lightly resinous/dirty hop note on the finish. must use chinook or EKG on this one. definatley have a resionous hop presence. body is lush with very fine carbonation and slick mothfeal. I dig this one! Would make a GREAT aging barleywine and has characteristics of SN bigfoot in the hop profile.

2004 version which is around 9.5% - 10.0% (direct from David Yarrington - Brewmaster) I just can't remember the email to be exact, but trust me..the 7% on here is waaay outdated. Deep ruby and orange, nice egg shell white head. Lots of grapefruit, pine, and all things hops in the aroma. Flavor is very nice with a blend of citric fruit, cherry, pine sap, caramelized pineapple, toffee and brown sugar. Reminds me of Old Horizontal, but maybe just a bit hoppier. I look forward to trying many more from this up coming brewery in the Northeast. Great stuff! Keep up the great work my Smutty friends!! I'm gonna have give this beer "two snaps and a twist"!

22 oz bomber thanks to slob. Excellent beer I thought. Deep copper color with an excellent head. Aromas were caramel, molassas, bright cherry, raisin. Flavors were similar with an alcoholic middle and a nice hoppy citrus finish. Very Good

Deep reddish orange. Thin creamy and resilient head. Nose has maple, lots of caramel, quite malty, typically barleywine sweet. Sweet and malty, some hops, a bit sour. Isn’t quite as full as I’d like. Alcohol also a mite overly noticeable. Decent.

Slightly translucent amber-rose in color with a little splotch in the center as the head. Aroma is strawberries and honey with a sweet hop bouquet. Some traces of phenols and alcohol, although aroma is fairly reserved. Flavor? We’ve got hops here, and lots of ’em. Pineapple orange and some lemon zest. Caramel syrup, likely the byproduct of the malt make-up. Body is solid and nearly syrupy, but in a dense, sustentative kind of way. Casts a sticky web on the palate. Balance is hops heavy, maybe because it’s young, but this is the way I like my barleywine. Finish is honeycomb and rose tea. Some hop bitterness lingers in the aftertaste and is a little numbing. The closer to 60 degrees, the better. This is some good shit. Thanks again for the Smutty connection, tpkenned! I love these New Hampshire bastards.

2006: usual reddish brown body. Small to moderate head, decent to good lacing on the glass. Good aroma here, lotsa fruity hops with a big caramel malt base. Flavor was less impressive though. Felt off balance and there was quite a bit of alcohol in the finish. Not drowned in it, but much more than I prefer. Bitter finish with a syrupy mouthfeel. Not bad overall.
