| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 5, 2004 Clear dark amber body, foamy light tan head that collapses in the middle while sticking to the sides of the glass. The aroma is a melange of sweet malt, citrus and floral hops, butterscotch, and alcohol. The flavor is a tad harsh with both malt and hops in abundance but the flavors do not quite mesh together. The body is medium. The alcohol really stands out. I will have to age this one and see how it is in a year or so. emacgee (1892), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA

The nose is a tad sweet, lightly citrusy, light alcohol, the aroma is pretty subdued in general. The flavor is dry with some alcohol, citrusy, waxy, oxidized. Dry waxy mouthfeel with a warming finish. Would like to try straight.

Aroma of alcohol, caramel malts, citrus, and traces of hops. Flavor is caramel, smooth, alcohol is present nearly masking any sweetness this beer has. Good body, good brew. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 14, 2005 Vanilla and wood in the nose...and a prominent bourbon scent too. mostly vanilla and bourbon in flavor with an unexpectedly spritzy mouthfeel. Big alcohol burn on the way down made me dial back my drinking style a notch or three. Pretty good drink. mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 6, 2007 Pours a radiant, reddish brown, with a medium, thin white head. Smells of hops, caramel, sweet malts, and a little bitter fruit. Grapefruit mostly. Taste is quite sharp, some nice rich caramel, slightly bitter, but in a good way. Traces of cinnamon, and some sweeter grapefruit citrus. Faily smooth and balanced pretty well. Good showing. Crosling (1855), Loveland, Colorado, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 13, 2005 Burgundy color. Sherry-like oxidation is unfortunately, very profound in the aroma. Nuts and ripe fruits are present in the aroma as well, with hints of peanut brittle, caramel corn and mocha. The mouth experience is quite tame, considering the style. Unfortunate oxidation initially on the palate, while on the mid-palate ripe fruity esters and mocha hints are present, which leads into a caramel, port-like finish.
