| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 16, 2008 I’ve been drinking a fair amount of barleywines this winter (okay, so I drink a fair amount all thru the year) and this barleywine just sort of...blah. It was easy enough to drink, but aroma and palate character were missing. It was kind of an empty beer if there ever was one. A "by the book" aroma of caramel with some hops present. Appearance was a dark burnt orange color with a nice off-white head. Mouthfeel was a little hot. Flavors combined elements of caramel malts, floral hops with a big dose of alcohol infusion. A pretty average attempt. I’d definitely drink it again, but I wouldn’t be on the hunt for another bottle for sure. JB175 (1664), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 9, 2008 2006 bottle. Nice reddish-caramel color with a light-med head. Aroma has lots of caramel, sugar, and a faint bit of citrus/pine hops. Flavor is smooth and sweet with a light hop bite to match an aggressively sweet malt. Smooth and tingly mouthfeel. This one is a classic barleywine that seems to have benefited from two years in the bottle. Butters (1653), Virginia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 7, 2009 2007 Bomber shared at the Butters’ 1500 tasting. Pours a clear dark ruby with wispy off white head. Nose is suprisingly grapefruity hop despite the age, and just a twinge of alcohol burn. Flavor is rum soaked fruits, alcohol, and still some resiny hops. Definitely has a good heartburn warming. Great barleywine, good price, not digging the label, but still damn good. Aroma and flavor were very muted caramel sweet malt with some alcohol in the finish. Little bland for a BW. Marsiblursi (1653), Göteborg, Sweden
