Nov 20, 2006 Aroma of yellow raisins, sweet malt, and toffee or caramel - excellent for an English barleywine. Appears a hazy amber color, with no head to speak of. Flavor is sweet and vinous in front, a bit chalky or ashy in the middle, and with an English hop bitterness in the finish. Palate is soft and velvety, with medium body, and with the slightest effervescence to cover the alcohol a bit. Overall, a very good barleywine.

May 4, 2007 Deep amber orange beer with a thin lace. Aroma is very sweet and caramelly with an intense fruity character as well. There is a bit of cherry and sweet citrusy hops over the malts as well. Warming intensifies the fruity components as well. The flavour is nice, but not as well integrated as the aroma might suggest. An overly intense bitterness for a brew where the estery component is so strong in the nose. Sweet brown sugar and caramelly malts. A light piney flavour late on the palate.

Dec 15, 2006 Bottle. Nice and malty, bonbon, pepper aroma. Hazy red/brown colour. Small white head. The flavour has a good alcohol bite, but it is nicely balanced by the sweetness and some of the same notes as in aroma.

Dec 11, 2006 650ml Bottle @ Decemberfest 2006: Poured cloudy and copper, zero head. Aroma of floral hops, caramel, malts, and fruit. Lots of alcohol in the flavour, covered by caramel and malts, and a good hoppy back end. Good all around, surprising hoppiness.

Feb 1, 2008 Nice resiny hop aroma. Pours a clear dark red with about half a finger of lat tan head, that left good lacing on the glass. Interesting earthy taste to it. Very creamy mouthfeel, alcohol very well hidden. Well balanced, even though I’m more of a hophead.

Apr 5, 2009 A little syrupy, bitey hops. Notes of raisin and caramel. This one really didn’t wow me, but it was okay for a barley wine.

Jan 20, 2008 Updated: Jan 22, 2008New 2007 bottle. Hazy dark orange with a medium head. Aroma of citrus hops with sugar and caramel malt. Alcohol very prominent in the taste. Heavy bodied. This might need some age; I’ll try a year old bottle I’ve been saving, and re-rate.
2006 bottle (1 year old). Much improved over the year in the cellar, without the harsh alcohol burn. The sweetness comes out with caramel, raisins and dates. Rating is for this bottle.

Dec 26, 2007 Hazy red pour with a a thin quick diminishing off-white head. Big Pine hop aroma. Pine bitterness that end with a subtle but nice sweetness. Medium bodied. Very nice Barley Wine
