Malts were sweet, with notes of chocolate-covered caramel and syrup. Very warming and cozy. Grassy bitterness. Perhaps a little oxidized, but it didn’t bother me so much under all the other weight. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 8, 2004 Beer pours copper color with red highlights and has a fairly small rapidly diminishing off white head. Aroma is sweet malt with a nice dose of hops thrown in. A bit floral and aged in the nose. Flavor is initally pretty sweet. Finish is a bit purfumey from the hops. Decent. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 24, 2004 Deep reddish orange. Thin creamy and resilient head. Nose has maple, lots of caramel, quite malty, typically barleywine sweet. Sweet and malty, some hops, a bit sour. Isn’t quite as full as I’d like. Alcohol also a mite overly noticeable. Decent. 21iceman40 (1731), vienna, West Virginia, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 6, 2004 Hazy, copper body with a thin, off-white head. Sweet malt and sharp hops dominate the nose. Caramel, toffee, pine, grapefruit and sweet oranges. The body is average. The flavor shows the strength of the hops and the alcohol. The malt tries to fight through, but the extreme bitterness of the hops and the warmth of the alcohol just dominate. The finish is just pure bitterness and burning alcohol. Not my favorite Barleywine but it could have been better. shadey (1500), Rochester, New York, USA

Strong alcoholic fruitiness with a decent amount of earthy hopines. The body is a bit sticky. DavidP (1743), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Aug 27, 2005 Bottle. Hazy red body under a creamy light head. A bit of marshmallow fluff accompanies the apricot-tinged caramel malt. Boozy flavor - dark fruity caramel sweetness with milk chocolate peeking around the corner. There’s some lemon rind/stemmy resinous hop bitterness along with alcohol in the finish. Medium mouthfeel with a sugary finish-feel. Smoky caramel malt as well as butter. A pretty average BW, not quite hoppy enough for my tastes. fly (1332), austin, Tejas, USA
