Commercial Description:
For our hopping regime we went with Cascade and Nuggets in the boiling addition. Centennials were added every 5 minutes for the last 30 minutes of the boil. We added Crystals into the whirlpool. Dry hopping was done in both the fermentor after primary fermentation and the bright tank. We used a mixture of Chinook, Nuggets, and Sterlings in the fermentors and whole leaf Centennials in the bright tank.

22 oz bottle via DocLock (thanks!). Pours a semi-hazy copper with an average size white head. Nose is mostly grapefruit and pine. Taste is the same as it smells. Starts sweet caramel and orange, then the pine, and then kicks you with a grapefruit rind finish. . A bit light bodied for IIPA.....overall i suppose i would say it is light/medium bodied..., could use more malt backbone. Overall a slightly above averge IIPA... add a .1 point for the cool label for old school wresting fans.**************************** 8/17/07-rerate- was 7/3/7/2/14***** This has been in my fridge for at least half a year and is a 2006 22 oz bottle. Pours a very hazy amber with an average sized white head. Nose is mildy fruity and quite hoppy. Taste is quite nice, an expolsion of sticky pine and citru hops that last long after the finish. Body is full. Carbonation is just right. So many of these IIPA’s these days tastes like barleywines, but this one. This is near perfect blissful hoppiness, just as an IIPA should be! Alcohol is well-hidden. This is world-class!

Slightly murky orange-yellow body with a finger of offwhite head. Smells extremely hoppy, with pine and citrus notes. Tastes very hoppy, with almost equal parts citrus and pine flavors. Alcohol is also evident, but is fairly subdued. Body is surprisingly full, despite the fact that this beer feels neither syruppy nor overpowering. It leaves a fair bit of lacing on the glass. Carbonation is not quite as strong as one might expect. While not as good as 90 minute (what is?), this is a decent imperial IPA, and I may get it again.

Blind rating, American Beer Tastings at Sk8viking´s. Pours a hazy dark orange with a tanned head and lacings. Smells hoppy. Very bitter. Slightly portish. Hints of aged cheesyness. Strong hoppy finish.

Another in the line of the Big Bottle series, the Big A IPA continues in Smuttynose’s tradition of big, bold beers. This one pours a medium amber color with a large, off-white head. Mostly diminishing, the head leaves behind fair lacing. Active carbonation in the body. Aroma is well-balanced, with an even blend of malts and hops. Medium strength flowery hops, and average strength sweet malts combine into a well-rounded nose. Alcohol is also present. Despite the well-balanced nose, the initial taste provides no safe-haven from the alcohol in this beer. A first light sweet, it quickly progresses to a medium bitter, spending an eternity on the palate. Oily mouthfeel at the finish.

Bottle: Cloudy yellow orange color with a small white head. Aroma, spice and citrus with some sweetness sneaking in. Flavor, citrusy, spice. Caramel and other light sweet notes up front, followed by a big kick from the hops. A nice lingering bitterness. Good stuff.

22 oz. bottle on 10/21/06. Hazy amber/gold with a medium off white head. Citrus and pine dominate the aroma. Light malty sweetness is rapidly overshadowed by spice, and bitter citrus flavors of lemon rind and grapefruit. Medium body with a aresinous and astringent mouthfeel. This is quite bitter,a nd the finish is long and bitter, leaving it a little unbalnced in that direction.
