Nose is like a Shoals pale ale, hoppy and some funky cheese. Palate is smooth with a fizzy finish. Flavor is hoppy up front with a toasty malt and funky cheese note to finish. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 14, 2009 In short: A strange funky (not standard bretty) brew that cannot be described with a short sentence.
How: Tap at Novare Res, Portland Maine.
The look: Partly cloudy orange blonde body topped by an off-white ring of foam
In long: Nose has a weird “stinky” funkiness. Smells like a horse, sweat, perfumy flowers and citrus fruits. Strange but not off-putting if like me you like your beer a little on the wild side. Definitely not a standard bretty nose. Taste continues in that strange funky-but-not-so-bretty direction. Barnyard, flower juice, very citrusy, sweaty underwear, a little perfume note, tree bark, bread, wood juice. Strange sensation of chewing on a flower stem. A mild strange juicy sourness closes the deal. Definitely an unexpected oddity coming from a brewery that tends to do things by the book. I personally enjoyed it but that strange beer is not for everybody. But once you accept that the universe is matter expanding into nothingness without boundary then drinking a strange funky beer becomes rather mundane. malrubius (986), Valley Stream, New York, USA

Sweet citrus orange with light funk that grows as it warms and mild hoppy finish with light lingering funk. Pretty nice. nimbleprop (847), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA

Well balanced in terms of nose and flavor although not incredibly bretty. argo0 (6891), Washington DC, USA

Pours a golden light yellow. The head is nice white and foamy. The aroma is a little earthy, mostly just light malt though. The flavor is surprisingly disappointing. If you hadn’t told me this had Brettenmyoces in it I never would have known. It’s not really that great of an interpretation of a belgian white. This is kind of a poor attempt in my mind. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 11, 2009 They poured this at the "From Smutty With Love" event at American Flatbread Burlington Hearth yesterday and were having problems with the amount of foam. I managed to get the bar manager to score me a pour. I had to let it settle for about 3 minutes before even thinking about getting near it.
HUGE bone white head and golden, somewhat cloudy appearance. Nosings of sour green apple and sour white peach with stone. Some earthy, bark-like notes. The palate was moderately sour and medium bodied. Flavors of Brett and sour peach were wrapped up by wooded notes and an astringent finish. The finish was a little too dry for me, a little too "woody" feeling. A nice effort, but either needs some time to settle out or needs a little tweaking.
