From the 1 pt. 6 fl. oz Big Bottle series conditioned in 2008. Pours a cloudy pale golden-yellow. Heavy foamy off-white head. Aroma of yeast, overripe fruit, and alcohol. Medium mouth feel. Yeasty, spicy and sour taste. I wasn’t overwhelmed but then again, Saisons are low on my wish list.

This poured a cloludy golden in color with a moderate off-white head. The nose showed off citrus, caramel malt, herb and spice. In the mouth it is medium-bodied with nice richness in the mid-palate and a smooth yet dry finish.

The beer was more like a triple than a farmhouse to me. Poured golden with light white head. Combination of citrus and malt in the aroma. Had a dry hop bite, yeasty and frutiness. Was missing that grassy/horse blanket nose and flavor I’m more accustomed to in this style.

fresh 22oz bottle. Pours a ruddy dark yellow/light copper color with a thick, foamy head. Lots of active carbonation, head sticks around forever. Aromas of barnyard funk, fresh cut flowers, and wheaty grains. Flavors in the earthy domain, lots of grain, some light spices and a little bit of funky tartness with some sharp yeast notes thrown in. Clean and even on the palate. AN interesting take on a Saison, another solid brew from Smutty.

Nice supped up saison here. Similar to Southampton’s but this one suffers a bit from over-slickness. Beautiful floral slightly alcoholic nose gives way to a slightly medicinal aftertaste and standard American-made saison flavor. In the end, Smuttynose has made yet another great beer, perhaps this one doesn’t need to be so "big."

Pours a cloudy golden color with fizzy-ish white head. Aroma is light citrus and, yeast funkiness and light spice. Taste is much the same with a bit of a rich fruity, yet earthy flavor. Palate is mildly dry but fits the style quite well. A solid Saison.

Pours a slightly cloudy golden color with a thin white head and streaks of lacing. Aroma is floral, citrus, some spice and yeastiness. Taste is about the same. Not real funky, but not overly floral. A balanced Saison, but I still like them a bit funkier or fruitier.

Golden amber color with a medium head. Aroma dominated by grains, spice, citrus, coriander, and earthy undertones. Flavor has a light citrusy-grain taste that starts OK but falls apart quickly. Kind of a weak effort at a saison, especially for the ABV.
