Mar 16, 2009 bottle thanks to bu11zeye. poured a brown/ruby hues with a beige head. aroma was sweet, candi sugar, raisin, and maple. flavor was sweet, candi sugar, and dark fruits. light body and medium carbonation. this was a good good brew.

Mar 16, 2009 22oz bottle. Clear dark brown with a red tint and a big yellow-tan head. Lightly yeasty, caramel, and raisin aromas. Sweet, malty flavors with lots of raisin, lightly fruity yeast accents, and a good dose of caramel. Medium-thick with low carbonation and some stickiness. The only way I can figure they thought this was a quad is because they planned in it fermenting more and adding a couple more percentage points of alcohol, becoming a much stronger, dryer beer; that’s how sweet this stuff is. Maybe alright in the right dessert setting.

Mar 15, 2009 Thanks to JoeMcPhee for sharing - cloudy purple-ish beer, with minimal head - aroma of dough, fig, diacetyl, prune, raisin - sweet, but relatively dry for the style - kind of lacking complexity and balance, with a lot of dough and innocuous dark fruitiness - caramel and toffee - some strange tart acidity late - the alcohol is quite strong for the 8.5% - meh.

Mar 14, 2009 Bottle. Sweet fruity aroma, with a big malty backing. Deep red body, light brown head. Flavor is much too sweet (but nowhere near as cloying as most of the Allagash line). On the positive side, it does exhibit complex fruitiness, with spices and malt. One of my favorite brewers, the best label art in the business, but I’m somewhat disappointed with this effort.

Mar 14, 2009 Bottle shared by SamGamgee: Pours a transparent bright copper ruby with a frothy off-white head. Aroma of lots of sweet dark caramel and raisins with a smooth bittering hop balance and plenty of dark fruity complexity. Starts with good, rich dark caramely sweetness and brown sugar, raisin complexity before a semi-sweet doughy finish. A pretty interesting quadruple, but it a little under-attenuated.

Mar 13, 2009 Bomber from LIquor Depot (Tampa, FL). Pours a generally hazy dark cola brown with a one finger tan head that settles slowly and laces the glass. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of fresh nuts, caramel, candy sugar, ripe dark fruit, brown sugar, hints of molasses and toffee. Flavor is sweet and malty with notes of ripe dark fruit, sweet raisins, caramel, brown sugar, molasses and hints of toffee and coffee toward finish. Generally medium body with a pleasing sweet and malty finish.
