Commercial Description:
Gravitation Belgian Quad is the newest offering in the Smuttynose Big Beer Series. This strong dark ale is brewed using a variety of Belgian specialty malts along with 200 pounds of raisin puree per batch. The resulting flavor is a viscous mix of dark fruit, rum, toffee and raisins balanced with aromatic fruitiness of the Belgian yeast. The beer weighs in at 8.5% ABV from a starting gravity of 23 degrees Plato.

Bottle. Pours a dark reddish brown with a small light tan head. Aroma of raisin, sweet malt, sweet dark fruits (plum, prune) and vegetal notes. Ick. Flavor is very very sweet with raisin and dark fruits. Sticky palate and rather carbonated. The flavor is not as bad as the aroma but still. This really is an awful quad tho, with no similarities at all to the top Belgian quads. 5/4/6/3/11 (2.9/5)

22oz. Drank side by side with Avery Reverend. Pour is a deep ruby brown with a small fizzy brown head. Aromas of rasins, pulm, oak, caramel, yeast, slight alcohol, cherries, and blackberries. The mouthfeel is sticky and thick. Strawberries, tropical fruits, cherries, and rasins are all found in the flavor. This one was really just too sweet, but it was still nice.

Thanks to Fredandbobflo for this one! Muddy brown pour. Thick tan head and drippy lace. Sweet malts and dates on the nose. Sweet malts, rasins, candy sugar, and toffee. This one grew on me, but it seemed this beer strived to share some similarites with st. Banardus.

Bottled. A deep red beer with a thin tan head. The aroma is sweet with notes of berries, malt, and alcohol. The flavor is sweet with stong notes of berries, caramel, and malt, leading to an alcoholic and dry finish.

22 fl oz bottle. Pours clear and golden deep amber to red with a fully gone head. Aroma vague roasted and dark fruity. Spiced, dark fruity and roasted malt flavoured. Vague metallic note. Fruity and dark solid malt flavoured finish. Lingering dark malty flavoured finish.

Bottle: The aroma is fruity with hints of chocolate, caramel, and raisins. It pours slight hazy reddish-brown with a small off-white head. The aroma starts moderately fruit. The finish has a hint of chocolate and raisin. Medium bodied with with soft carbonation. Maybe a little simple and not overly complex, but I find this extremely tasty and underrated.

My Bottom Line:
Dried cranberries, dates and plums add complexity to the caramel malts of this rich and sweet dessert Quadrupel.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the hazy dark brown.
-Light alcohol warms up the back end.
-Some roasted and toasted angles are tasted.
-Even though the body is luxurious, this is still easy to sip on.
-Some more attenuation would help methinks, but this is already a fun recipe to partake in.

Bottle.
