Commercial Description:
Gravitation Belgian Quad is the newest offering in the Smuttynose Big Beer Series. This strong dark ale is brewed using a variety of Belgian specialty malts along with 200 pounds of raisin puree per batch. The resulting flavor is a viscous mix of dark fruit, rum, toffee and raisins balanced with aromatic fruitiness of the Belgian yeast. The beer weighs in at 8.5% ABV from a starting gravity of 23 degrees Plato.

A nice quad, representative of the style, but nothing exciting. Flavors of sweet malt and dark fruit. Smooth mouthfeel, easy to drink.

22oz bottle big thanks to jrob21. This is my highest rated style to date for a reason. Pours a ruby/purple color with medium beige head. The aroma is great; loads of sweet candies, chocolate, rich fruits, berries as well. The flavor is great; dry yeast, plums and raisin, berries especially strawberry, chocolate, rich malts, very nice. A good example of the style and quite drinkable.

on tap at Cole’s in Buffalo. Nice malty, dried fruit aroma and flavour, noticeable alcohol, and lingering malty sweet aftertaste

Pours a deep ruby/frown color with a thin white head. Aroma is rich malt, dark fruit, some caramel and molasses, but everything seemed a little subdued. Flavor was similar; a lot of malt, dark fruit, toffee, caramel, but almost like the sound was turned down. Good beer, but a little mild for a quad.

thick orange brown, yellowish thin head. aroma is super malty, like raw sweet maltyness, very odd. also some fruit and yeast behind that. flavor is also very sweet, fruity but not very well balanced. heavy and viscous, this is good but too heavy and not fruity or bright enough.

Dark amber with a moderate tan head. Fruit, toast, and yeasty aroma. Flavor is big with fruit. Sweet and smooth. Very good.

Poured into a Trappist glass, producing a brown/ruby colour with a thin, yet sturdy tan head that fades to a ring and spotty film. The nose is characterized by candied plums, brown sugar, apple pear, estery yeast, and raisins. The flavour wonderfully full and sweet, with all the aforementioned suggestions meshing together. The fruity esters and raisin flavour are rich and sweet, and this coupled with a velvety smooth, ultra-thin palate makes for an intense Quad. Cherries, figs and other dark pitted-fruits come to mind. What it lacks is the dryness usually associated with the finish of beers done in this style. Instead, it finishes sticky sweet like a barley wine lacking in the hops department. The hops in this brewski are mellow and herbal, making for a perfect compliment. It might be a little heavy on the desert character, but I like that about it.

Wow great looking and great smelling right off. Ruby red to brown appearance, tan head. Aroma of cream, raspberry, chocolate, sweet ripe dark fruit. Also a bit of a yeasty sour aroma. Palate is very sweet, stick, a bit tingly, a bit warming but other than that no alcohol noted. Superb, but then this is one of my favorite styles. Interesting to see that they added raisin puree.
