Arayaga2 (932), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 27, 2008 Deep brown with with a fast fleeting brown head. Aroma is sweet and floral with citrusy hops. Taste is almost unexpectedly rich, with deep roasty coffee, dark fruit, and a finishing hop buzz. Very sweet, but still fairly balanced, with a velvety mouthfeel. It does, however become a bit cloying and hard to drink after the first 8ozs. $6/22oz dlovell2 (136), Columbia, Maryland, USA Aug 26, 2008 Had sample at the Smuttynose brewery in Portsmouth, NH. Black color with little head. Roasted malt, coffee and hops aroma . Coffee and roasted malts flavors with nice hops finish. matt7215 (942), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Aug 21, 2008 bomber from premier gourmet. 2008 vintage. pour black with a short lived tan head. aromas of hop resin, roasted malts, alcohol burn. flavours are sweet easy dark malts, chocolate a plenty, some caramel, big hops. finishes coffee and hops bitter. very fresh and somewhat hot. could do with some time in the cellar. id gladly purchase this again and leave it down for a year minimum. Beershine (2677), Hue, Vietnam Aug 20, 2008 Big black pour. Thick and opaque with half-inch brown head. Not expressively aromatic. some coffee. Roasted malt flavors dissipate into a smooth, mellow, no-nonsense brew. Nice slick mouthfeel. Rich without being the slightest bit roasty. TheGent (143), , Massachusetts, USA Aug 10, 2008 Normally when people talk about a beer being balanced it also means that the individual flavors just dont stand out much on there own. Not so with this big bottle offering. My tasteing was a tug of war between sweet malt and spicey hops. With one sip i was grabbed by the toffee almost corn syrup sweetness. But with the nest the stinging hop spice was all i seemed to notice. And so it went back and forth with every sip. Adding the stunning dark body and thin tan head along with a light enough palate that made it so I didn’t feel weighed down after finshing this alone makes this a great beer. ElGaucho56 (386), USA Aug 9, 2008 Pours an obsidian black with tiny, mocha head that dissipated completely. Rich mocha cappucino nose, fudge aroma with strong funky pungent hops. Thick and chewy mouthfeel with noticeable warming. This bomber took all evening. Molasses and root finish. Reminded me of Old Rasputin, with a little extra hop oomph. nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Aug 7, 2008 22 oz. Opaque with a small, but enduring head. Big nose of orange, chocolate, molasses and cured tobacco. Same flavor elements but with more emphasis on the orange and tobacco, plus some oak and alcohol presence. Strong char, peppery ginger and tobacco aftertaste. Medium-heavy body is tingly with hops and carbonation, warming with alcohol, and nicely sticky. Good, but still a bit hop harsh for my Impy tastes. craftycarl21 (510), South Hero, Vermont, USA Aug 4, 2008 black pour with smallish head. Aroma and flavor are both characterized by hops- much more than your typical impy. It’s surprising, yet still delectable. Palate is very smooth- very tasty beer.
