mwelsh13 (483), Maryland, USA Aug 4, 2008 22oz bottle split into three snifters poured opaque black. No light gets through this one. Deep coffee, roast, charcoal, smoke, and a grassy hops in the aroma. Rich chocolate taste, with bitterness up front. Very smooth and slick tasting(oily). Alcohol present at the swallow and once it hits your stomach. Almost a port flavor. Some type of dark fruit in the back of the taste. mabel (2530), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 4, 2008 [1288-20080411] 1pt6floz bottle. Roasted boozy raisin skins aroma with dark malt fruit. Dark black brown body with a quick light tan foamy head. Smooth dark fruit flavour with a bitter coffee background and a base of booze. Full smooth body. Very nice and smooth and dark and yummy...
(Vintage 2006; c/o DuctTape, w/ him, jerc) jrob21 (1252), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Aug 2, 2008 This one came in from my ss this summer and what a tasty addition to the box. More on the fruity side of things as opposed to the over the top roasted malt/chocolate/coffee experience you usually get. Aroma was rich and full of red fruit and molasses, some plum as well. Flavor started out with the burst of red fruit again and faded to a roasted coffee experience. The texture was slightly chalky and it leaves a bit of a sweetness at the end. Very tasty. BeerHawk (1175), Huntsville, Alabama, USA Aug 1, 2008 2006 Bottle. Poured black with a thin tan head. Nice aromas of coffee, chocolate with a light roast and hop background. Light alcohol also in the aroma. The flavor is much the same as the aroma but the coffee does not stand out in the flavor as much as in the aroma. Leaves a nice toffee/mocha after taste. Medium to full body that is sweet (med) upfront and bitter (med) in the back. Very nice! LilBeerDoctor (1480), East Setauket, New York, USA Jul 29, 2008 Bottle. Pours black with some floaties with a small tan head that dissipates. Aroma of nice roasted coffee, sweet roasted malt, and a little squash. Flavor of roasted malt. Flavors are a bit muddied; I get a lot of general sweetness. Heavy, but drinkable. Doesn’t quite compare to the big boys. fredandboboflo (1395), East Setauket, New York, USA Jul 27, 2008 Bottle, 2008. Aroma of roasted malt, some chocolate, alcohol. Flavor of roasted malt, sweet chocolate, some dark fruits upon warming, alcohol. Finish at first seemed very heavy on the alcohol to me, but turned to a nice coating bitterness over time. Grew on me as it warmed, but still not a favorite impy stout. sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 27, 2008 Courtesy of Idatetheformula.
Pours thick black with brownish head. Aroma is roasted and malty.
Taste is filled with chocolate malts and caramely, some of the hops gave it a sweeet soja note,
Loaded with alcohol, sweet an excellent imperial stout.
JohnQPublic (387), Brooklyn, New York, USA Jul 26, 2008 Draught @ Smuttynose brewery. 2008 vintage, about 4 months old. Pours thick, viscous opaque black with a creamy, one finger head. Nose is sweet and roasty, cocoa and a bit of citrus hops flavor poking through. Great nose. Taste is big, rich cocoa and coffee, a bit sweet and very smooth. Round. Oily hops emerge towards the middle, vinous, but never dominating - nicely balancing the richness of the cocoa sweetness. Finish is lingering, palate-coating, dry. Body is thick and heavy, smooth but with enough carbonation to keep the palate refreshed. Fanastic beer.
