doormouse (14), Hastings on Hudson, New York, USA Mar 24, 2007 On draft at the Lazy Boy, pours a deep black, nice dark foamy head. Smells of roasted malts, sweet chocolate and traced with the aroma of alcohol. Tastes of rich chocolate, malts, coffee and raisins, slightly nutty with the faint undertones of dried hops at the finish. Nice lacing around the glass. Goes down smooth, a very drinkable beer, think I’ll order a second pint. robertsreality (2460), Minnesota, USA Mar 24, 2007 Dark Brown with Dark Sandy to Tan Head. Nice Sweet Malt, Roasts and Hops on the Nose. Medium Mouthfeel...Wonderful and Robust. Nice Hearty Malt Foundation, Coffee Roasts and Some Chocolate and Really Nice Robust Hops to Balance This Impy Out. This is Quite Simply a Wonderful Example of What an Imperial Stout Can be All About. nolankowal (850), Columbus, Ohio, USA Mar 22, 2007 Bottle recieved in a trade, but I’m afraid I can’t remember which one. At any rate, thanks to whoever sent me this! Black oily pour with a tan head. Aroma of some citrusy hops, light roasted malts a bit of chocolate as well. Flavor of chocolate, roasted malt and some coffee notes as well. Roasty throughout, solid body with a bitter/roasty finish. Not bad, pretty neat take overall. mhelgason (495), Charlotte, North Carolina, USA Mar 22, 2007 Bottle. Small light brown head (mostly dissapating) w/ pretty good lacing. Dark Black, Black, Black color. Aroma...Suprisingly the first thing that I noticed was the hops, then roasted malts, chocolate, and molasses. Flavor is initially sweet and finishes with a moderate bitterness. Very long finish. Medium to full bodied. Texture is a bit on the syrupy side. I was impressed but not the best I have had. VikingHammer (362), Lynnfield, Massachusetts, USA Mar 21, 2007 Pours dark with a big light brown head. Roasted malts and chocolate dominate the aroma. Roasted malts, dark fruits, chocolate, coffee, and light alcohol are very well balanced in this huge stout. Very smooth, full mouth feel. Its brewed close to where I lived. Now my favorite local brew. beerbill (1919), Laurel, New York, USA Mar 17, 2007 22 oz. bomber. After spending almost 2 hours driving home through the sleet and freezing rain, I was really in the mood for a "big" beer last night. Thankfully, I opened up a bomber of this lovely brew. Pours an opaque black with a luscious, bubbly mocha head. Aroma of roasted malt, raisins and prunes with a very light coffee undertone. These same qualities were also present in the flavor, just slightly less intensely I thought than in the aroma. I also picked up some scotch whiskey in the flavor. Some hops bitterness at the finish. Good stuff. guzzler67 (1272), Hanover, Maryland, USA Mar 16, 2007 Large, tawny colored head with fair lacing atop a black body. Roasted malt aroma with layers of chicory, pepper, smoke, dark fruit and semisweet chocolate. Healthy heaps of hops balance the rich, earthy, roasted caramel malt flavors. Superior tasting, full bodied, long lasting finish. Braudog (3733), Dayton, Ohio, USA Mar 16, 2007 22oz bottle: Poured like black gold with a huge cascade of waterfalling bubbles, rising into a 2-inch thick fortress of solid tan foam. The aroma is big and sweet, roasty and even hoppy. The flavor is even more robust and an incredible blend of titilating flavors ... dark, bitter chocolate ... dark cherry ... oak ... whiskey ... and a big hop resiny anchor. This is gut-buster, and I plan to enjoy it for the next hour or so. (#2754, 3/16/2007)
