Resiny green hops, lots of chocolate malt in very sweet aroma - wow. Pitch black, creamy tan head. Very roast and bitter taste. Sweet; nice alcohol burn as well (tastes stronger than 7%). Just a very very nice version of an impy stout, falling on the hoppy side of the scale. Nice job! Pailhead (2605), Allen Park, Michigan, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 2, 2005 Bottle: Courtesy of IMtheOptimator via trade. Big malty aroma. Lots of chocolate with light vanilla, lighter caramel, and the slightest hints of coffee. Pours a dark brown with no transparency and a small tan head. Flavor is the opposite of the aroma. Quick maltiness of chocolate and caramel is quickly overtaken by a strong coffee finish. Leaves a cafe mocha aftertaste. As it sits and warms, maltiness increases a little and improves the flavor. A tad thin for an Imperial Stout. 5000 (2600), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 14, 2004 Bottle pours black as space, large foamy tannish head, with so-so lacing.   Hops and roasted malts on the nose.   Strong roasted malt character, slight hop bite.   Decent body, alright mouthfeel.   Nothing stands out as this being really fantastic.   Its a good Stout, but just not as heavy as I would have thought for an Impy.   Finishes with a good hop bite, slight roasted maltiness.   No chocolate notes, or hints of soy.   Meh... Thanks goes out to radiomgb for the trade!

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 1, 2009 22 ounce bomber purchased at Bullock’s in Marietta, Georgia. Bottled In: 2009. So fresh!
Appearance: Pours a dark brown, near black body with a head the color of café au lait.
Smell: Roasty, coffee-toned nose with bittersweet chocolate and particularly fragrant hop scents of bitterish pith and pine.
Taste: Roasty coffee flavor at the beginning with a touch of bittersweet chocolate and a bit of dark caramel. At this stage, the hops are rather assertive and deliver a heavy citrus taste and lesser hints of pine needles. Moderate bitterness. Both the roasty coffee flavor and citrusy pine resin vie for attention, but neither side really wins out. Finishes drying, roasty, and bitter.
Mouthfeel: Medium-full body. Medium carbonation. Relatively smooth mouthfeel.
Drinkability: Good fresh, though I’d personally prefer to see it with a bit of age on it to temper those biting hops. Paired well with the CD "Some Are Lakes" by Land of Talk. 1FastSTi (2580), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 5, 2006 Pours to a black body with a huge foamy light brown/tan head. The aroma is hugely citrusy and chocolatey. Dry roastyness. The flavor is really chocolatey and dry black roast. Citrus hops are pretty strong. Sort of like FFF’s Black Sun. Velvety and tart mouthfeel. I’d buy it again. Nate (2558), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 14, 2008 From bomber. Has a quite hoppy nose with some grapefruit. Chocolate and mild coffee. Licoric and alcohol, oak, and vanilla. Nice aroma. Bit of carbonic gaseousness. One of the hoppiest impys I’ve had. Dark, dark brown-black with cocoa tan lacing head. Heavy oily body with medium carbonation. Nice alcoholic warming. Starts heavy and sweet with chocolate and caramel. Light licorice, alcohol. This is really a great impy stout. A bit hot, vinuous and sweet. Medium bitter finish and warming after. Well done.
