Pours a nice dark brew, some light comes through during the pour but it sits black in the glass. The aroma is interesting, thick, molasses, brown sugar, coffee, chocolate, a bit earthy. The flavor is very nice, noticeable alcohol upfront, some grapefruit waxy hops, molasses, rich, chocolate, coffee. Nice thick warm mouthfeel. Lasting roasted finish. Aroma of berry, chocolate, coffee and hops. Flavor was that of mild coffee, malt and chicory. A very smooth and mellow imperial stout. stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, and hops. The flavor is sweet, roast and chocolate is present, as well as a moderate hoppy bitterness in the finish. Excellent body, excellent brew. nearbeer (1878), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 7, 2008 22 oz. Opaque with a small, but enduring head. Big nose of orange, chocolate, molasses and cured tobacco. Same flavor elements but with more emphasis on the orange and tobacco, plus some oak and alcohol presence. Strong char, peppery ginger and tobacco aftertaste. Medium-heavy body is tingly with hops and carbonation, warming with alcohol, and nicely sticky. Good, but still a bit hop harsh for my Impy tastes. iowaherkeye (1877), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Feb 9, 2007 22oz bomber Bottle Conditioned in 2006 from jah noth, thank you Dan! Sits black with a half finger brown head. Aroma still has a pretty good piney hop presence in part that it’s still pretty young--fresh Gonzo Imperial Porter comes to mind. It’s a nice sweet pine aroma--I really like it. A lot of roast, milk and dark chocolate, coffee, juicy raisins, a little vinous quality. Some salted peanuts are also in there. Flavor is piney and salty up front with roasted malts plow their way through the palate next, staying til the end. Some sweet raisins come towards the end and the dark chocolate is just before the finish. Semidry mildly bitter roasty finish. Alcohol is covered up exceptionally well. Full bodied, yet not syrupy with soft creamy carbonation and mouthfeel. Excellent. CharlesDarwin (1860), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 22, 2006 Updated: Mar 25, 2007Julios Spring Beer Festival. Murky dark brown puddle pour, topped with a head of creamy tan. Aroma is dominate by an extremely floral Cascade. Am I high, or too drunk? No. I distinctly remember this, but nobody else seems to. Then, in the mouth, this continues to develop with really sapping floral piney Cascade. I can’t get any dark malt character. Something must be wrong. Re-rate planned. This will do for now, as others seem to comment on the straightforward hop character of this beer.
RERATE. Sample from bottle. I was actually pretty right from the original tasting and not impressed with the one-dimensionality of the hop character, both in flavor and aroma and this conflicting with the harshness of the alcohol and roast. Not balanced and not subtle enough to be enjoyable. mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 13, 2008 Pours black, with a thick, creamy light brown head. Smells pretty rich and roasty, good bit of chocolate, touches of dark fruit, and oak are also present. The flavor is also on the roastier side, with lots of chocolate malt and coffee making their presence known. Just a big, rich imperial stout just the way I like them. The alcohol was noticeable, but not over the top, and the flavor on this one was quite delicious. I enjoyed it very much. Crosling (1856), Loveland, Colorado, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Apr 15, 2007 22 ounce bomber. High quality, a top notch beer. This is a very nice looking beer. It pours dark brown from the bottle and appears black in the glass. The head is dark, like any good Imperial stout should be. However, any beer that doesn’t pour like pure black oil from the bottle cannot get top marks in the appearence score from me. I want every Imperial Stout to be pitch black, no matter what, sorry. Aroma indicates that this is a fresher bottle, it has some nice malt elements (chocolate, roast), but it is mainly dominated by huge, citrusy hops. Flavor is very expressive and concentrated. It is massively flavorful in both malts and hops. The malt shows hints of chocolate, coffee and roast, while the massive hops add hints of citrus and pine. A very fresh, hoppy Imperial Stout. This is a tasty beer, but not sublime fresh. I could see this aging really well.
