2-finger, milk-chocolate, epsresso-style head with moderate lacing. Pours like viscous motor oil, which is what we’re shootin’ for.
Soapy hops with a little licorice and maybe rosemary (?), lemon-grass and even some Granny Smith apple. In a word: Stewy.
Tight slate taste at first, with ample cinnamon sugar. Alcohol is well-accompanied with sweetness as this warms.
Alcohol and stewed fruit are prominent in mouthfeel with slate, coffee and chicory.
This is a pleasure to sip slowly - more accessible than would be expected from the style. Nice stuff.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 9, 2006 2006 bottle: Ahh, lovely aroma. Dark chocolate, and big 3C hops, citric and resiny, with some grass. Cherry pie? Flavor bit and sweetish up front with dark chocolate, espresso, roast and ash, with a drying slightly astringent finish. Palate near velvety. Finish shows some hot alcohol to go with the astringency. Perhaps a bit oaky/woody. Oh, and a pretty dark red-brown, smallish head that leaves medium lacing. jayme9874 (756), Hamburg, New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 5, 2004 ALmost completly black. Nice cocoa-brown head and lace. Nose of freshly roasted barley, hints of fudge and earthy hops. Aroma is similar to their porter. almost medium bodied, could be thicker but flavors make up for it. Very roasted, slight oxidation/metallic?, coffee, fudge, hint of smoke and nice sharp bitterness. Its like a BIG porter, not quite an Imperial that Im used to but at just 7%, this packs a nice punch of flavor. The drinkability and just something about it I really got into. Recommended. Sweet dark chocolate wit a noticeable floral hops backdrop. Sweet dark chocolate start with a touch of light fruit. A bitter coffee middle. Finish is roasted grain goodness with enough flavor hops to add to the dimension. linger is long and roasty. Smooth feel. Thanks to Falconeye8 for this brew. Dogbrick (2907), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 9, 2004 Acquired via trade. Pours a deep dark brown (very nearly black) with a thick dark brown head that dissipated slowly. Decent lacing throughout. The aroma raised my eyebrows it was so roasty, with lots of coffee present. Rich-bodied with a strong roasted character, with coffee, hops and a bit of chocolate in the flavor. It could use a little more sweetness for balance though. The finish is lightly bitter and retains the coffee flavor. Overall this is a good Imperial Stout that simply needs a little more depth to be top shelf stuff. omhper (12299), Stockholm, Sweden
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 2, 2006 Bottled. Black, brief head. Extreme grapefruit aroma. Under the hop detived flavours of peach, lychee and grapefruit lies tar and licorice. The roasty malt plays second fiddle to th ehops, and in a blind test I could have mistalen this for an IIPA. Very bitter finish. Soft and relatively drinkable. Offering an interesting twist on the style, and a wonderful beer. Sickboy282 (1100), San Diego, California, USA

Smells of malts, dark fruits, chocolate, tar, and burning. Poured black in color with a big, dense, rocky, dark brown head that lasted throughout. Excellent lacing. Opaque. Flavor is medium sweet and lightly to medium bitter. Tastes of chocolate, coffee, cream, hops, alcohol, and a bit of dark fruit. Medium to full body. Thin, dry texture. Soft carbonation. Dry, chocolate, bitter finish. Overall, a nice Impy Stout that made a great breakfast.
