Commercial Description:
After a one year hiatus the Imperial Stout is back in action. We figured that after catching a bit of flack for its absence we’d have it return with a bang. We bumped up the starting gravity from 20° P to 24° P. This allowed the beer to finish just over 10% ABV. Like this year’s Barleywine, we’ve decided to play with the hop character, specifically the dry hop presence. Trying to avoid the fiasco of my previous attempt at adding pellets to the fermentor, I did what any good manager would do: I made Charlie add them. He had the advantage of being able to add the hops directly through a top manway and so his besting me in this challenge is not necessarily a sign of his superior brewing skills but more a reflection of my adventurous, try anything spirit (or at least that’s the story I’m stickin’ to). The Charles added 44 lbs of Cascade, split evenly between two batches, or about half a pound per barrel. We then transferred the beer onto seventy-eight pounds of an even mixture of Centennial and Columbus whole flowers, about one pound per barrel. The beer is a little top heavy in terms of the hopping but it seems to be smoothing out a bit as it’s aging. I’d give it six months or so, if you can wait that long. If not, hey, enjoy it anyway.

wow..aquired this gem via trade with Schutzenliesel...pours black with small ochre head..beautiful lacing, perfectly carbonated body...aroma large in mildy sweet yet bitter dark chocolate, nuts, coffee and toast...perfectly textured, this body is full of roasted malts, toast, chocolate, raison, cocoa powder, and mild hops...finishes slightly bitter and dry...one of the darkest stouts to date

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, tupalev & Dave B. -- my bottle courtesy of Thaichile. Pours a deep dark brown with a good size semi-lasting creamy light-brown head. Fantastic aroma is big time resiny hops with dark malt, chocolate and hints of fruit -- man that smells good! The malty roastness comes out more in the flavour along with tons of hops, some fruit, coffee and some alcohol (the alcohol’s present but it doesn’t detract from the enjoyment of the beer at all). Nice full body and creamy mouthfeel. An awesome Stout, exactly how I like it, with tons of hops -- must get more!

Muchas gracias, Cletus! Bomber releases a dark brown, viscous pour with lots of head (especially for the styel) and aromas that have a TON of hops in them. Pine covers up chocolate and alcohol. Flavor is heavy pine up front and then transitions to pine and chocolate milk on the backside. Variation from sip to sip seems to be pretty large, with some focusing more on cocoa and some more on the pine with the ever-present alcohol warmth and flavor coming through.

dark chocolate brown almost black. deep caramel head that hangs around for quite some time. Aroma is deep roasted coffee, chocolate - very promising. Smooth thick mouthfeel, very drinkable. Delicous. Heavy roasted roasted malt/coffee aftertaste. Over 10% abv! Great brew.

Pours a dark, motor-oil-esque black color with a very thin brown ring of bubbles around the surface. Aroma of sweet malts, coffee, brown sugar, caramel, and hops. Flavors were super intense--very sugary and sweet, a bit acidic, a bit bitter, hints of chocolate, coffee, flowers, and a slight spiciness. Mouthfeel was slick, sticky, and a bit oily. Really good stuff, can’t wait to get more of these and possibly try to cellar a few and see how they turn out in a few years.

@ home with the club. Vintage 2006. Pours black with no head. Full flavoured and sweet. Aromas of burnt malts and some coffee and hints of alcohol. Nice strong hoppyness. Reminds me a bit of a Stout-IIPA mix. The strong hopsaromas surprice me. Good.

Pours black, with a thick, creamy light brown head. Smells pretty rich and roasty, good bit of chocolate, touches of dark fruit, and oak are also present. The flavor is also on the roastier side, with lots of chocolate malt and coffee making their presence known. Just a big, rich imperial stout just the way I like them. The alcohol was noticeable, but not over the top, and the flavor on this one was quite delicious. I enjoyed it very much.

Bottle. A really good imperial stout. Black colour. Lots of roasted malt in the nose. Flavour is off bitter dark chocolate, mocha coffee and perhaps some charcoal. Rich mouthfeel, with a flavour and bitterness that seem to go on forever.
