This imperial stout has a fresh and clean, bright flavor to it, with nice roasted flavors, smoothness and balance - nothing harsh about this one. CUJO (362), Brooklyn, New York, USA

The body was thin enough to gulp hard yet heavy enough to fill you. The high abv was noticeable yet subdued... it wasn’t until I stood up did I feel this brew. Another nice one from Stone! | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 24, 2009 Bottle. Poured a midnight black with a thin beige line at the top. Nose is chocolate, licorice, some hops, and lots of roasted malts. This is a real solid take on the style. Lots of bold flavors, with the licorice leading the charge. It has some sweetness to it, but is not too sweet. Something about this is a bit disjointed, and I am not able to put my finger on it. Finish has some nice bitterness to it, with a light bite of the abv. 17thfloor (1492), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 22, 2009 22oz bomber. First impression, this is a solid imperial stout that has a unique hop profile. Aroma is very hoppy, floral, fragant, equally resionous green tree sappy piney, I’m really quite intrigued with the malt profile, charcoal, fruity, licorice, bitter dark chocolate, very nice. Flavor is deliciously smooth and rich, hops are still quite assertive, same as aroma, floral, super green and piney, resious for sure, the malt profile definitely takes a backseat but it is wonderful in itself, a bit ashy fruity light charcoal, works surprisingly well with the green floral hops, reminds me of Deschutes a bunch, finish is nice, some very rich syrupy chocolate sauce and a nice vanilla kick, somewhat ashy aftertaste. The body really is what holds this beer together, medium/full, closer to full but without being the least bit syrupy or chalky or too viscous, the carbonation matches the hops perfectly, lively and sharp without detracting at all from the malt profile. Double IPA/Imperial Stout tag-team. Strangely addicting.... like a lighter bodied and easier drinking Darkness. alexsdad06 (1088), Ohio, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 20, 2009 Sample from a 22 oz. bottle. I had this as part of a blind stout tasting. We sampled 5 beers at a time side by side under controlled conditions. Notes were taken on all beers and ratings for the group compiled. This represents my individual rating for the beer. The pour was black with a small beige head. The aroma gave me hints that this was not going to be one of my favorites. There was a heavy dose of citrus hops that competed strongly with the roasted malts and chocolate. I am not a fan of hoppy stouts, especially ones with the big citrus notes. The flavor was also heavy with citrus along with roasted malt, chocolate, and some dry bitterness. The other negative was a slight degree soapiness in the flavor. Mouthfeel was medium and texture seemed a bit slippery (maybe in my head due to the flavor). I would give this another try by itself to give it a more fair shot, but since it was blind I don’t know how I could be more honest. I did, after all, bring this bottle to the tasting and had high hopes. smashteroid (251), USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 3, 2009 22oz bottle. Pours jet black with a creamy tan head. Tons of licorice, black fruits, coffee, and cocoa on the nose, light booze. The profile is dominate with coffee followed by black licorice and bittersweet chocolate. Good mouth feel and nice carbonation. A damn good Impy Stout.
