Commercial Description:
Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBU’s, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that’s not easy to find. We think they’ll be quite pleased.

Bottle. Golden, slightly hazy a fair bit of sediment, sudsy white head with some nice lacing. Nose is citrus, pine and some caramel. Flavor starts out citrusy, medium toffee sweetness with hints of apricot, dries out and finishes with an intense lingering grapefruit bitterness. Medium mouthfeel, ends with a bracing hop bitterness bordering on astringency.

Not bad....not too bad at all. Medium golden color to this one. Smells mainly of hops with a little bit of grain. Taste is full of hops and leaves a little bit of a bite in the end. An overall pleasant brew.

The name of this company pisses me off for no apparent reason. The brew itself is tight. Lots of hops, semi candied into bitter-hop’d wickedness. This was consumed at the well over-priced Kickbacks, on King/College in Jacksonville, FL. A pub style bar thing with an excellent selection should u not know already. The aroma was similar to Two Hearted Ale, a personal classic, and the taste had a slight cloying feeling towards the end; achk, fuzzy teef. Nice twist of citrus, with some lemon and grapefruit lamenting around floral hops and fresh pine sap.

12 oz single bottle from Total Wine in Jacksonville, FL. A surprise to see here in North Florida. Pours a clear gold with a thin, beige head. Very good lacing. Great aroma of floral hops, grapefruit, orange peel. Taste is citrus hops with white pepper and a touch of pine resin. Great creamy palate. This was a very nice surprise. An excellent IPA.

I think this may be the best IPA I have ever had, in fact this is what launched me into an IPA frenzy this year. Sweet sweet hops and spice, what an IPA should be.
