Commercial Description:
Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBU’s, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that’s not easy to find. We think they’ll be quite pleased.

Nice light copper pour with a thick white head. Fragrant hop aroma, lots of citrus grass and earth. Taste is smooth crisp malt with a nice bitter hop edge, very grassy. Finishes with a pleasant hop bitterness. Good IPA.

bottle. Pours a light, slightly hazy amber color, thick inch of tightly packed head. Aroma dominated by sharp citrus and cut grass. Some hints of grainy toasted bread. Flavor is hop-forward with little malt sweetness. The common C-hop grapefruit citrus action dominates the flavor, with some hints of oranges and light floral notes as well. Clean, sharp and even bitterness throughout. Some lightly sweet toasted muffin malt makes it’s presence known, but stays a supporting character. Clean and crisp on the palate. Solid, well crafted IPA.

From a 12oz bottle out of a mix pack this IPA pours an orange color with a decent white head. Aroma of citrus hop, malt and biscuits... Taste of grapefruit, pine and some peaches... solid IPA. Decent mouthfeel even if it is a little on the thin side...

12oz bottle. Pours amber with a small foamy head. Nice lacing. Citrus hop aroma but quite grassy. Flavor is mildly bitter up front with some nice grapefruit and orange middle notes and a mildly biting bitter finish. Solid

Cask Draft - On cask, this beer is simply amazing. It was also dry hopped with Centennial so the aroma was great. Quite hoppy, but not overpowering and the malt flavor was excellent. Really, really well made.

On tap at Mellow Mushroom. Really pretty IPA. Clear and hoppy...very crisp. Very evergreen. Medium golden amber body, with white head. The style is growing on me more and more. Really spicy hoppy.
