Commercial Description:
Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBU’s, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that’s not easy to find. We think they’ll be quite pleased.

Thin, too watery, light floral hop citrus scent. Not much flavor. Just bitter. Maybe my tastebuds weren’t working but this wasn’t as good as everyone else makes it out to be.

Bottle: A solid IPA. Excellent floral character and the hops is well balanced. Nothing outstanding but pairs well with food.

Discount Liquor $8.49 6-pk. 11/09 Milwaukee, WI. Color is bright golden, with a nice white lace head around glass, good carbonation. Aroma reminds me of grapefruit and something else that I can’t pin-point (dry-hopped maybe?), you can sense the hop that awaits you. Wow, that’s up-front bitter, only 65 IBU’s? The bitterness fade’s fast and turns sweet, then bitter again on the roof of your mouth creeping down your throat. Feels thin, not a huge malt backbone, which I prefer to balance the beer.

Bottle from Kingdom Liquors. Poured a hazy copper color with an average frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate sour citrus hop and small malt aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium bitter flavor with a medium bitter finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met.

Pours a golden haze with a white head that clings slightly. The aroma is a floral and ’green’ hop with a touch of yeast. Plenty of hop flavor on mouth for this medium boded crisp ale. The balance is slightly bitter with a brief finish.

Had this at the mad mex in cranberry, pa. Poured a hazy light orange/yellow color with nice medium amount of foamy white head. Aroma was pretty mellow, bit carmely and citrusy with some doughiness and spice. Flavor was a bit of a letdown in my opinion. Pretty malty/carmely with a light citric hop finish. Very light on the palate.

A: Poured with a small, white head... still resulting in some fairly nice lacing throughout drinking. Body is a nice orange color, and hazy. Cloudy with small particles floating around. S: The aroma is actually kind of weak... I can detect some citrus and resin there, maybe even a hint of celery or something peppery with the hops. Very slightly funky, though... not sure what’s going on here. T: The taste, however, didn’t pull any punches, which surprised me after that weaker aroma. Lightly sweet with citrus undertones, and then a moderately-strong bitter finish... more bitter than the aroma would let on. Really enjoyable. M: Medium-bodied and creamy, with average carbonation. D: I was a little disappointed with the aroma of this beer, but it scored very well with everything else, and it’s a great IPA that packs a pretty good punch.

This poured a darker yellow color with a white head. Aroma was lightly roasted pale malts, some citrusy american hops as well. Flavor was fairly bitter, but not quite the hop flavor i was looking for. An average IPA
