Commercial Description:
Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBU’s, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that’s not easy to find. We think they’ll be quite pleased.

12oz bottle served in a Duvel tulip. Crystal clear orange body with a nice frothy head. Smells of fresh peaches and oranges, a touch of pine. Lasting bitterness is the first impression I get of the flavor, peppery floral notes emerge after a few sips. Nice dry and refreshing body. A bit different but very enjoyable.

bottle. pours clear, deep orange with fluffy white head. the bittering hops dominate. a nice solid bite over a smooth dry malt. I like that its not overly floral or sweet. A nice change of pace for an IPA.

cloudy, golden hue. Thick, rocky offwhite head....tastes of apricot, pine and hops. Fans of IPAs will appreciate it.

Rating #200. K and I brought one back from our trip to manhattan - though I don’t remember specifically where we got it. gold-orange color. thin off-white head. caramel, floral and green apple in the aroma. crisp sweet malt up front then quickly moves on to a long bitter hop finish. pine, citrus and perfume highlights. like this a lot. would be in my rotation if I could get it. K-7

12 oz. bottle - purchased at Oliver’s in Albany; pours dark gold with foamy white head; lots of retention and aromas on the mild side; hops come flying out in the flavors though as it drinks sweet, malty and gently bitter; creamy body and just a yummy delight; great balance and a dry, bitter finish; overall a terrific IPA

(Bottle). Inviting bitter aroma. Color is hazy amber with a medium head. Heavily bitter flavor with intense grapefruit, and a lingering bitter finish. Not nearly as well balanced or complex as Dogfish Head 60 Minute. A good choice for lovers of bitterness.

Bottle from Woodman’s in Kenosha. Golden beet with a nice head. Nose is a bit skunky, though not in the worst way. A little catty as well. Very much in the vein of East Coast IPAs, Quite bitter without the citrusy flavors of I would expect, given the nose offered by santiams, typically. At any rate, it’s got a nice and clean bitterness with a solid backbone of malts that takes a beating. Very nice IPA.
