Commercial Description:
Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBU’s, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that’s not easy to find. We think they’ll be quite pleased.

Pours opaque amber with minimal head. Aroma of piney hops with a citrus zest. Flavour is very hoppy- almost too much so for my tastes but not quite. Grapefruit in there as well. This would go great with pizza or other greasy foods. Dry finish with medium body.

Bottle. Hazy light amber body, medium white head, PNW hop nose. Bitter, citric, minimal crystal malt character.

Bottle. This pours a very cloudy golden with an off-white head that creates decent lacing. The aroma is strong in hops with grapefruit citrus, mild spices, and some nice biscuity qualities. There is also a subtle white grape aroma as well. A sharp bitterness grabs your taste buds as this brew comes in contact with your tongue. Caramelly sweetness mixed with white grapes become quite apparent as the brew passes the tongue. There are also hints of grapefruit and some unknown spices. The finish is surprisingly smooth, being as bitter as it is. There is also has a sweet biscuit flavour to the finish. This is sweeter than a lot of IPAs I’ve had, but it’s a very nice balance of sweetness.

This amber pour smelled citrusy and hoppy. It was bitter overall and had a metallic finish. I didn’t like it all that much. Too much hop for me I guess.

Bottle. Poured a cloudy golden color with a medium white head. Strong lacing. Aroma of amarillo hops and citrus. Nice mouthfeel. Flavor is very bitter with a strong grapefruit flavor to it. Has a lot of pine in the aftertaste. Not one of my favorite IPAs.

A solid IPA. Pours out s nice coppery color with a fluffy white head. aroma is very citrusy and fairly hoppy. flavor had a nice resin and hop hit to it witha smooth lasting hoppy finish to it. this is a fine example of an IPA. Great job!
