Commercial Description:
Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBU’s, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that’s not easy to find. We think they’ll be quite pleased.

Pours a fairly clouded amber. Hoppy nose with pine attributes. Flavor profile carries the same with a strong citrus and pine character that is strong, but not a complete hop bomb. Overall very drinkable and smooth. Even as well. You can’t really ask for much else than what you get.

Golden color with a white head, it has a nice lace. It has a swet taste of both malt and hops, with a certain dryness. It was very pleasant to drink and had a very nice aftertaste.

12 oz bottle. Pours yellow with a small white head. as an un filtered beer, it has plenty of floaties in it. nose is of citrus and hops. As for flavor, like the commercial description says, not a training wheels IPA. This is a hop bomb. There are some citrus flavors and some malt for balance, but the overwhelming flavor is the hops. The finish is rather bitter with a lingering bitter aftertaste.

Absolutely one of the best IPA’s I’ve ever had. Great for all seasons. Cloudy dark gold color, armoa that pucnches you in the nose, and a bitter taste from start to finish.

Bottle from trade with goldtwins. Pours a hazy yellow-orange with a thin white head. Moderate layer of floral hop meets the nose, with some mild sweetness following through. Nice piney hop character throughout the taste, though a hint of some astringency appears in the finish that mars the overall experience.

Smells of citrus hops. Pours a dark copper with lots of floating things. Tastes well balanced with a good amount of hops. Not sure how I feel about the floating stuff. Theres some really big chunks in there. A good tasting IPA though, but I could do with more hops.

Great citrus smell right from the start, with a somewhat darker color than expected, but still that yellow brown of an IPA. Heavy but not overly so in the malt, nicely hoppy but still decidedly bitter in the after taste. IPA should be that way but maybe just a bit too much, a bit too dry instead of tangy in the hops would be a bit more balanced. Not a bad taste, but the bitterness just continues to linger and linger in the after taste. Also feels warm at the end, must be the alcohol coming through - at least it’s not actually in the taste but at 6.6% I can understand it. Still good, but a bit unhappy with the finish. Just so close to being even better.
