Slightly cloudy orange-gold with a medium and lasting head. Aroma is citrus, pine and dry cereal grain. Flavor is light honey drizzled on grapefruit, pine resin, and dry cereal. Strong grapefruit and sweetened dry cereal aftertaste. Medium-bodied and smooth; dry, but not real tingly on the finish. badlizard (2362), Berkeley, California, USA

Nice ocher/maroon color with light fizz. Much homogenous head of short duration. Fresh and flowery aroma with pleasant notes of sweet malt, new wine and flowers bouquet. Much typical and complex taste with detached notes of burned and dampen wood, cask and aged stum. Much pleasant and balanced on the end with stum nose and extremely persistent bitter. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 21, 2007 Cloudy, light golden amber color with a small white head. Inconsistent sheets of lacing. Aroma is pretty standard fare, with grapefruit hops and toffee comprising the nose. I also picked up some fairly neutral grainy smells. The flavor is just on the bitter side of balanced, with grapefruit hops outweighing the malty, buttery base. It feels a bit bigger than the claimed 65 IBUs. The sharp hops really stick to the roof of the mouth, leaving a lingering, bitter grapefruit aftertaste. Body is on the light side of medium and slightly cloying. Decent IPA. | 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Aug 16, 2007 Very very nice. Cloudy gold with small white head. Explosive aroma of citrus hops. The bitter taste jumps out at you with tastes of grapefruit and pine. From the ratings you either love it or think it is just ok. cazort (419), Newark, Delaware, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Aug 15, 2007 Very strong bitterness. Hops have a planty character. Perhaps a bit unbalanced -- too much hop, not enough malt flavor. A good, but not excellent IPA. Overall, a slight disappointment after the other Smuttynose brews which tend to be more interesting.
