Commercial Description:
Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBU’s, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that’s not easy to find. We think they’ll be quite pleased.

Cask, GBBF 2007. Slightly cloudy. Nose is very fruity, lots of fruit pastille! Flavour is slight fruity with massive hop and evident dry hop tints. Finishes bitter but clean.

A Mes rate: Gravicask at GBBF. Oily gold with a rim of bubbles. Hoppy aroma with peach and nectarine. Feels a little rough at first but the citric finish really sorts it. Straight forward but jolly tasty all round.

Gravity at GBBF 2007. WOW! what a great beer. The fact that it looked appalling lowers its score. I guess I do drink with my eyes. Also I hate the fact that it is 6.6%, as it was so good you wanted to drink loads. I tried the lower ABV Smuttynose and it wasnt nearly as good.

Pours a golden orange with a small head. Big citrus hop aroma. Hops galore with a nice sweetness. Hints of grapefruit. Nice IPA.

From a pint pub pour at The Kinsales in Boston, MA this came a rich gold with small white head and good lacoing. Very nice citrus and piney hops nose, and a mouthfeel that was rich and clean. Very good flavors of those hops and light caramel malts with good balance. Dry bitter finish made you look for a second pint. Good IPA

Cask at Great British Beer Festival ’07. Gold with a small off white head. Glorious sweet floral aroma with grapefruit and other citrus plus ripe melon. Sweet ashy taste with grapefruit. Mid bitter. Excellent.
