Commercial Description:
Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBU’s, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that’s not easy to find. We think they’ll be quite pleased.

12 oz bottle. Pale orange amber with large off-white head like a puffy cloud. Citurs orange aroma, sweet malt. Tastes of pine, citrus, sweet malt but balanced. Med body. Very nice.

A slightly hazed amber color with a small off-white head. The aroma was malty and toasty. Some earthy notes from the hops with a touch of citrus. The flavor was malty with a toasty cereal note. From the middle hops start to fill in. Citus and perfumey. The finish is fairly dry with a rind bitterness that is moderately strong on the finish. Medium bodied.

Golden blonde pour, aroma of hops (as with any IPA). I found the taste sorely lacking on this beer; it’s bland and wholly non-complex. Another miss from Smuttynose.

Sweet caramel on the nose. Pours golden blonde. Smooth, sweet, bitter, with citrus hops flavor. A nice IPA.

a lite floral aroma; creamy. Pours a hazy gold. Clash of CO2 and hops on the tongue; hop biterness lingers in a harsher and not very smooth kind of way. Not bad , but I rather have a different IPA. Its like a harsh Pale ale!

12oz bottle from a liquor store in Lowell called "Liquors." I can’t believe that I haven’t rated this one yet. This has been my local IPA of choice for years. Smuttynose is possibly my favorite New England brewery. This IPA is light and refreshing like a west coast IPA. The citrus flavor dominates and the finish is bitter and crisp. This is a very nice session IPA. Yum

Draught. Subdued hop nose. Clear golden with a thin white head. Nice substantial palate with a strong hops bitterness. Mostly citrus dryness. Well balanced, solid IPA.
