Commercial Description:
Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBU’s, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that’s not easy to find. We think they’ll be quite pleased.

[Cask at GBBF 2004] An orange beer with no head. The aroma is powerfully hoppy combined with notes of alcohol. The flavor is sweet and very hoppy - just like eating fresh hops flowers - combined with notes of grapefruit and alcohol.

Bottled. Hazy orange, rich head. Intense grapefruity hop aroma. Dry with light, clean, sparkling mouthfeel. Hoppy, very bitter finish. Nothing but pleasant hop juice. A simple, but very good beer

Bottle. OK grassy and caramelly aroma. Cloudy copper colour with lots of floating bits. Big stable creamy white head. The flavour is quite bitter, with some malt. Also caramelly, but not as much as the aroma. Good beer, albeit a bit one-dimensional.

Cloudy beige colour. Woody, citric aroma. Woody, bitter flavour with some toasted bread notes. Simple but effective...they aren't re-inventing the wheel but they make a nice wheel. For fans of Big Daddy, 60 Minute and Bhagwan's.
