Cletus (5001), Connecticut, USA Jun 28, 2007 Pours copper with a nice white sustained head. Smells of biscuits, citrus, lemons, a nice caramelly malty backdrop and some rosey hints. Tastes of caramel, mellow malt, light peppery splashes, hints of citrus, some earthiness and honey. Mouthfeel is sugary with a light hoppy finish. This is an excellent interpretation of the style. nimbleprop (819), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA Jun 27, 2007 Poured a crisp golden color with a foamy, lacing white head. Aroma is all spice and yeast with very little noticeable hop. Flavor is more of the same, spicy/herby with a distinct European yeast flavor. Light malt, slight bitterness from the hops. Finish is nice, slightly thick tipping off the heavier alcohol. I don’t love the style, but they really got what they were going for which is respectable. sliffy (1966), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jun 26, 2007 Bottle: Pours an orange gold with a white head. Aroma, pale malts, bready, some spice. Flavor, sweet pale malts, some yeast, toffee. Pretty solid. guzzler67 (1272), Hanover, Maryland, USA Jun 25, 2007 Slightly hazy, amber/orange appearance with a medium size, off white head and good lacing. Sweet, caramel malt aroma accented with soft fruits. Pleasing, toffeeish taste, sweet, fruity, malty, mildly herbal, with a low keyed hop presence. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a decent amount of carbonation. Long lasting, honeyed finish. Zeswaft (1000), Seattle, Washington, USA Jun 22, 2007 The highest rated maibock not retired apparently. Pours clear copper color and one finger of head. Aroma is honey, nutsm and a little nail polish remover. Flavor is surprisingly bitter. A bit of grape juice, honey, and a little spice. quite sweet. finishes with a hint of alcohol. perhaps one of the better bocks but not a very strong category in my opinion. prickly carbonation. VAYankee (248), Virginia, USA Jun 22, 2007 Clear golden body with a thick white head. Sweet, malty, lightly spicy aroma. Initial sweet honeyed taste, followed by grassy, grape, bready flavor. Dry, modestly bitter aftertaste. eaglefan538 (2351), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jun 21, 2007 Pours a golden color with some amber hues, nice frothy generous head, great lacing. The aroma was honey, earthen and grassy hops, rich bready malts. The flavor was excellent bready malts, light honey, some grass, a nice spiciness along with carbonated zing. The malts had a grapey-ness to go along with the bready richness, and this was a very fine example of the style, top notch. Mouthfeel was full, rich, yet balanced, very clean feeling. At-a-boys, Smutty!!! JoeMcPhee (4893), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jun 14, 2007 22 oz bomber. Hazy deep golden colour, white head. Very fresh malty aroma, pale and sweet, light herbal hop aroma as well. Flavour is quite grassy and freshly herbal with a bit of sweetness and light honey character. Nice tasty maibock.
