Somewhat sweet and sticky palate, a bit of alcohol flavor and bite at the back of the throat. A negative to me. Not bad but lacks the complexity of some of the German offerings. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 21, 2009 Hazy orange pour with a nice, white head. Nice hops spring from the aroma. Citrusy taste, with some light hops involved. Lighter then I expected, but it tastes really, really good. This is definitely a beer I could drink a lot of. Very good balance. Malty flavor with a proper amount of hops to balance it out, almost dry finish. A little thin on the mouth feel, but other wise great.

Sweet malt flavor with a fruity twang and hoppy undertones at the finish. This beer is 100% maibock! Very sweet and a not a session beer IMO but very good. Smuttynose is one quality brewer. Many thanks to Goz for this gem. TheBeerLover (1019), DC Metro Area, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 25, 2006 Smuttynose Maibock pours to a beautiful, bright, deep amber to brown color with a thick and creamy tan head that slowly fades and a moderate amount of carbonation. The nose on this beer is wonderful, with big sweet malty, nutty, slightly toasty aromas and hints of peppery alcohol heat. The palate is rich and full on the tongue with a sea of smooth malt flavors. Flavors of sweet malt, toast and nuts are slighty sticky on the toungue as the glide down. Smuttynose Maibock finishes with more of those sweet malty nutty and toasty flavors, and ends with a slightly cloying, and warming burn.
This beer is a wonderful example of Maibock, a beer style that is a bit hard to find in ale dominated New England. Ty5592 (1015), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 3, 2008 Bottle. Hazy cloudy gold color with medium sized fizzy head. Aroma of sweet malt, light caramel, bisquet dough, and hops. The taste was the same but rich, big, and chewy. Sweet and too thick so refreash you on a nice spring day, but enjoyable never the less.
