Commercial Description:
Maibocks are a traditional Teutonic seasonal specialty. We brew ours to be hugely malty and subtly finished with a variety of continental hops, with an eye-pleasing russet brown color.

From the 22oz "big beer" series, this one poured a hazy orange with a nice thick white head. Aroma of tropical fruit, hops, malt and some caramel. Taste was a refreshing hoppy, citrusy, floral combination that pleasantly suprised me. Carbonation was just right without being too much. Nice beer.

22oz bottle. Vintage 2009. Clear orange color, white bubbly head. Aroma of sugary bubble gum. Nice rich malts, hint of toast. Followed in aroma with a clean, crisp herbal hop. Heavenly aroma. Flavor is a stick sweet malt nectar. So good! Big and chewy. Some ripe tree fruits as well like a juicy apple. This beer is so damn tasty. I am definitely gonna have to buy more of these. Sweet enough it should age very well.

Clear amber/orange with a large head. Good lacing and good retention. Aroma of floral and spicy hops with some caramel and paler malts and nuts. Medium body. Balanced bitter and sweet taste. Very nice.

Pours a hazy amber orange color with a 1.5 finger frothy yellowish beige head that slowly fades into a lasting ring that leaves sporadic spots of lace. Slightly roasted caramel malt aroma with hints of maple and floral hops. Very quaffable, creamy medium body with a huge roasted malt presence balanced out by a prominent earthy floral hop flavor. Hints of chocolate, caramel, toast, hazelnut and slight alcohol warmth. The bitterness of the hops linger over the sweet malt body into a slightly dry finish.

Pours a bright, slightly hazy golden amber with a dense one finger head that dissipates fairly quickly leaving no lacing. The smell is wonderfully sweet with caramel malts, apples, yeast and some very mild citrus hops. First taste is of the super sweet sugar which gives way to the malt background before finishing with the citrus hops. There are also some spices present in the finish. It’s medium bodied and smooth with good carbonation, almost syrupy, but not quite. This is one of the better Maibocks I’ve had and I’m once again impressed by a Smuttynose brew. Nice!

Pours hazy amber with lasting two finger beige head and great lacing. Nose of apricot, orange peel, lemon grass, overall citrus, caramel malt, and yeast. Flavor was much the same- with molasses and caramel evident from the residual sugar. Nice lingering spicy hop bite. mouthfeel was rich and smooth- surprisingly so for a beer this light. Lots of flavor packed into an excellently balanced package- definite winner.
