Commercial Description:
Old Brown Dog has been cited as a classic example of the "American Brown Ale" style of beer. Compared to a typical English Brown Ale, Old Brown Dog is fuller-bodied and more strongly hopped.

Bottle. Poured a dark clear brown, with a decent head. Aroma of sweet roasted malt, chocolate, and hops. Taste is not overly hopped, with plenty of malt characteristic coming through. Finish is bitter. Mouth is pretty smooth and body is fairly average.

Pours a reddish brown with a tan head. Aroma of nuts, malt and biscuit. Very smooth taste that comes across with a nice malty flavor, caramel, toffee and subdued nuttiness. Very drinkable brown ale - not overly carbonated either like some of the other brown ales I have had lately. Another solid brew by Smuttynose.

This is a really nice brown ale. Realy smooth malty flavor. I would love to get some more of this great gulper.

12 oz bottle, pours a dark translucent brown color with significant head. Aroma is sweet and hoppy with a bit of malt. Chocolate is also noticeable. Flavor is very balanced with sweetness and bitterness about equal. Palate is very smooth and very drinkable in larger quantities.

Bottle, courtesy kiefdog. Pours clear reddish brown, with some nice white lacing. Nuttiness in the nose, creamy hazy chocolate, with some slight roast. Flavor has calm roasted nuts, chocolate, dry sweet morsels of cocoa. Smooth, creamy, soft body, quite drinkable, and somewhat interesting and complex.

Pours clear dark copper with light tan head. Aromas of sweet malt, chocolate and some nuts. Toasted malt flavor with some chocolate and a good dose of hops for a brown ale. Medium body with moderate carbonation.
