Gorgeous ruby-brown pour with a short beig head. Hops definitely present in the aroma. Medium mouth feel and decent hoppy taste. A good brew and one that I have sampled many times. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 23, 2008 Courtesy franksnbeans. Thanks dude. 12oz bottle. Chocolate brown pour with a small, quickly dissipating light tan head. No lacing. Average looking stuff. Nose of caramel, assorted nuts, chocolate, musty clothes and candied sugars. Flavor is sweeter, chocolate, nutty candy, toffee, cola sugar. The sweetness builds gradually but stays away from being overpowering. Medium bodied, easy to drink, low carbonation. Slightly sticky on the palate, but certainly never cloying. Finish is toffee, nutty bliss, super lengthy, the best part of the beer. The very end brings a rum soaked fruit bread blast out of left field, completely unexpected but it works for me. SHANER4 (385), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 23, 2008 1 of 4 brews I received in a sampler pac. Poured old brown dog color with medium head. Aroma is sweet and musty. Taste is bland and alcohol taste is evident. Should be higher abv. for as much alcohol I can taste. Aftertaste is grassy and maybe dirt??? I"m not saying this beer is horrible but the aftertaste is quite different. Old Brown Dod Ale is the perfect name, I give it points just for that. Pwn3d (1092), Manhattan, New York, USA

Flavor is nice and sugary sweet, finish is hoppy which lingers. Smooth and while its good for Smuttynose.. its forgettable. Not the best brown ale out there. ogglethorp (890), Ohio, USA
