Commercial Description:
Old Brown Dog has been cited as a classic example of the "American Brown Ale" style of beer. Compared to a typical English Brown Ale, Old Brown Dog is fuller-bodied and more strongly hopped.

Dark amber pour with thin head. Nice balance of malt and hops in the aroma, with floral and almost piney notes in the hop character. Very smooth and nutty malt flavor with far less of a hop presence than the nose suggested. Very smooth, almost pillow like mouthfeel with malty finish. Theres just something about this one that makes it very drinkable and tastey.

Pours a dark murky brown with a thick creamy head. Malts a sweet flavors. Not my favorite style but it does have a decent amount of hop flavor for a brown ale.

Pours a brownish red color with a moderate white head. Smells good for a red brew. Nice and malty with some sweetness and a fruity caramel type scent.Tastes sweet and malty with some berries, maybe raspberries in there. Tastes a little toasty as well. Palate is crisp with good carbonation. Not a bad choice, not my favorite but not bad.

Strong hops, though not as I suspected. I wasn’t let down, but it was averge for a brown ale

This draft brew from the Cyber cafe bar in Johnson City NY poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized light brown colored bubbles that were and left behind a transparent softly carbonated and a very good lacing. The mild aroma was brown malt. . The smooth flavor contained notes of hops and brown malt. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again.

Bottle. Good brown ale. Excellent balance. Not much of a head. Nutty malt flavor. Spicy hops.

Draft, Baja Bean, Staunton VA. Medium brown color with tan head. Nose of lightly toasted malt, caramel and brown sugar, peanuts, and some faint spiciness. Flavor is malt-forward, though with enough hops to balance out the sweetness. Some spices come through in the finish-- pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, etc. Not really my thing, but well made, and an easy drinker, and I’ll always support the Smutty.

Old brown dog, what a nice brown ale. Great color, great malty flavor, I love malt. 12 oz bottle, brown color, smells of malts. Get it if you can, good beer from a good brewer.
