Commercial Description:
Old Brown Dog has been cited as a classic example of the "American Brown Ale" style of beer. Compared to a typical English Brown Ale, Old Brown Dog is fuller-bodied and more strongly hopped.

350 mL bottle. Golden brown with a creamy white head. Roasted malt and hoppy aroma. Sweet malty caramel and toffee taste with a dry semi-bitter finish.

July 22, 2007; 12 oz. bottle. I expected more from the brewer of one of my favorite IPAs. A heavy, but nondememo (albeit slightly soapy), brown ale. Wouldn’t seek this out.

Old Brown Dog is a clear and unsparkling brown ale with a small white head that lasted for a second. It has decent lacing. It carries a sweet, tart, caramel aroma with a bit of chocolate, roast, a bit of spruce... and maybe chai. A very rich aroma, indeed. The body is medium light and a tad flat. It has a decent bitterness, a little tartness, some resin flavor, an almost saltiness or brine flavor-- like a pickle. It’s a bit acidic. It has a chocolate aftertaste (not dark chocolate) which fades to almost juniper. A quite complex flavor indeed. It’s not a very solid taste, but something to get the wheels turning. Every sip is a bit different.

Bottle. Hoppy, malty. Delicious. This beer has a great balance, full body and yet still smooth.

22oz bottle from the big bottle series and this guy is pretty ordinary. Not a bad beer as it’s fairly easy to drink but not overwhelming in the least bit. I was expecting more. Nice caramel and chocolate aroma with a malty taste.

Sweet caramel aroma. Pours brown. Spicy hops and caramel flavor. This beer is smooth and spicy.

Bottle. Nice aroma of chocolate. However, to me this beer tastes like cigarette water. Awful brew; you can do far better in the brown ales, such as Brooklyn, Newcastle, or any Belgian Bruin.
