Old Brown Dog has been cited as a classic example of the "American Brown Ale" style of beer. Compared to a typical English Brown Ale, Old Brown Dog is fuller-bodied and more strongly hopped.

Dark brown with a nice tan head that leaves excellent lacing. Nutty, sweet malt aroma. More of the same in the flavor with a nice rounded mouthfeel. Bitter finish. Not my favorite style, but this was pretty enjoyable.

12 oz Bottle-Poured a dark brown color w/a moderate, tan, foamy, head. Sweet, roasted, nutty aroma. Sweet, nutty, roasted malt flavor, kind of a standard Brown Ale. Nothing wrong with it, nothing spectacular. I’d drink it, but I wouldn’t seek it out.

Brown. Slight nutty aroma. Clean, nutty taste. All Smuttynose seem to have a similar taste but suited to the style. A solid brown but not special.

Clear red, offwhite bubbles. Subtle caramel malt aroma. More flavor, with coffee, malt, and hops. A bit thin and not much alcohol, slight bitter finish.

[Bottle, February 2007] Very dark pour with medium head. Aroma of rasberry. Flavor is rasberry, cherry, berry. Not my thing but I would like to re-rate this one.

Bottle, amber brown, small short lived head. Caramel malt aroma. Somewhat grainy, adjuncty flavor. Caramel, good hop balance. Okay brown.
