From a 12 oz. long neck brown bottle with a notched bottled date along the left side of label, Mar/2006. Made a good appearance, poured a reddish brown with foamy lacing that settled into a thin sudsy lacing, good carbonation. Had a malty nose, toasted and a light caramel, earthy with a fruity esters. A crisp and smooth medium bodied mouthfeel, good drinkability. Big malty taste, sweet toasted with a subtle caramel, light fruity esters, with a mild earthy hoppiness and a sweet toasted grainy and fruity finish. Another tasty brew from Smuttynose, a fine English brown ale, well worth trying.

Draught. Dark copper with a dirty, off-white small head. The aroma has caramel notes along with nuts and rye bread. Flavour is malty with caramel sweetness and cookie backing. Soft and reasonably sticky - medium body. Notable bitterness in the end. Good stuff. Sampled at Cole’s in Buffalo on June 24, 2006.

This is a fine brown. Full brown, walnut in color. Nice fluffy head. Nose of nuts and malt. Nutty, biscuity and flavorful...very rich and a bit creamy on the palate. Those yankees can produce a fine brown.

Pours a nice dark brown color. Aromas of nuts/chocolate/caramel. Flavor is nutty with a nice sweet honey chocolate taste and a little coffee bitterness.

Right down the middle for the style and relative to my tastes. Standard amber-brown pour with a small head that didn’t last more than a few sips. Lacing was good and the mouthfeel smooth, carbonated, and medium bodied. Flavor was nutty and enjoyable with a mild hop finish. Definitely a beer that improves with increasing temperature. Good balance for a nut brown, which can often come across too sweet.

bottle-crimson red accented by a sudsy-off-white head. aroma has notes of nice earthy hops (lots of hops for a brown, but really not all that hoppy of an aroma), toasted nuts, light chocolate, and a light mineral quality. flavors showcase the hops up front followed by notes of peanuts and cashews. body is somewhat light and somewhat watery, but pretty good for the style. a rather unique and tasty concoction of a brown ale that i enjoyed.

Aroma is very malty and hoppy as well. This beer has a very dark red, but not quite brown color. The head has a pale color and was light but was present the entire glass. The taste was very malty and crisp and has a plesent but not overpowering aftertaste. A very good and enjoyable brown ale.

Aroma has an almost smokey hoppy effect. Appearnece is a deep dark DARK amber.Flavor starts with a hit of sweetness then finishes (as the aroma promises) smokey with a hint of hop left over. the head was Ligh and thin and disipated quickly. a medium/dark body, light and smooth on the pallet. Very drinkable.
