Commercial Description:
Old Brown Dog has been cited as a classic example of the "American Brown Ale" style of beer. Compared to a typical English Brown Ale, Old Brown Dog is fuller-bodied and more strongly hopped.

This brown ale pours a dark amber color with a huge, frothy off-white head. Excellent lacing. Aroma’s of moderate nutty malts and allspice. Alcohol scent is present. Initial taste is both acidic and bitter, with a light bitter finish. Light on the mouth with an oily finish. Tastes very nutty, like a Nutty Buddy candy bar.

Bah!! Sour and blah, not a good beer from initial taste. maybe I have it too cold, but this beer taste bad. As it warms up, it gets a little better, but still not that good.Drinkable.

A lucky blind choice on a beer run while visiting Baltimore. Complex brown with a bit of a squawbread flavor -- meant in a good way!

[bottle] Nice dark ruby/brown color. Very short, tan head. Very malty- caramel/toffee, subtle chocolate. Finishes on the bitter side, which I think is kind of nice. A nice, full bodied brown ale.

This beer pours a medium brown and leaves a thin lace that quickly disappates. The smell of this beer is wonderful of cocoa powder, molasses, lemon, and some earth tones. As I taste this beer all the previous flavors come out I can really taste the chocolate on the fore front as well as some hop kick rounded out with some sweetness from the molasses then finished with a orange rind bitterness. This is a good beer from smuttynose one I will def come back to.

Pretty good. Dark orange color, nice head, with plenty of lacing. Aroma of hops, slight roasted malt flavor. Caramel flavor, very good.

Pours a nice orange-brown with a white lacing head that holds. Aroma is very hoppy for a brown ale, with a hint of roasted malt. Flavor is also hoppy for a borwn ale, but it has enough of a caramel flavor to balance out, and make this a fine brew.

12 oz bottle Pours a clear deep amber with a huge off white creamy head. Head is lasting with great lacing. Has a malty aroma of chocolate and coffee with a hint of grapefruit. Taste is medium to full bodied. Nice malts and a good crisp palate.Finish with a light hoppiness and good carbonation. This is my new tops in the amber ale arena. A very tasty ale, Bravo well done smutty...
