| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 15, 2006 Pours a nice orange-brown with a white lacing head that holds. Aroma is very hoppy for a brown ale, with a hint of roasted malt. Flavor is also hoppy for a borwn ale, but it has enough of a caramel flavor to balance out, and make this a fine brew. Nutty, earthy nose with notes of caramel and light chocolate. Flavor is nutty, lightly bitter and caramel. Medium-bodied with a creamy/sticky mouthfeel. Tangy, lightly bitter, grassy finish. iowaherkeye (1860), Los Angeles, California, USA

Nicely balanced between the hops and malts, leaning more towards the malts, of course, but still some nice bitterness in there, too. Not a huge fan of browns, but this is pretty good. bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Dec 18, 2005 Bottle. aroma: fruity shoe leather. looks brown amber. tastes like brown spices, leathery bitter malts, pumpkin bitter finish. The fuller body is OK, but I didn’t find mine had enough flavor to support it. This may just not be my thing, but I was bored by this beer. sneagrams3 (1757), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 15, 2005 12z bottle. Deep garnet hue. Nice finger width head of a creamy hue. Not too much in the nose but a clean, crisp outdoors citrus aroma. Slight barnyard, but I think all of that was from the head. After giving it a lil twirl, the chocolate maltiness really showed through. Wood, cedar, slight cherry, and toffee. Mouthfeel is incredible, as soon as I started to formulate essences, lively and full, the taste just died. Finish is tangy and citrusy, but it does not linger at all. The only flavor left in the mouth is a billowy, cottony cloying emptiness. Initially, the flavor is full of vanilla and malty sweetness. Good hop finish, that quickly consists of citrus and a floral zip. Really smooth and delicious flavor, but just too short.
