Commercial Description:
Old Brown Dog has been cited as a classic example of the "American Brown Ale" style of beer. Compared to a typical English Brown Ale, Old Brown Dog is fuller-bodied and more strongly hopped.

Bottle. Murky brown. Aroma is malty, nutty and roasty. Some caramel as well. Flavor is full of caramel malt and some light nut flavor. A bit of hops is a surprise on the finish. Not bad.

dirty water brown color, thin white head. Smells of burnt molasses. Tastes a bit bitter, a bit burnt. Gives the impression of higher alcohol content than it actually has. nice slow fading aftertaste.

A medium colored brown ale that was my introduction to Smuttynose. From the pour the malt nose, tannish head, and smooth "brown" taste is a pleasant example of a brown ale that hasn’t been "Bigged" like other brewery’s are doing nowadays. If you want a beer to relax by the fire with, or a six pack to enjoy over poker, this beer will have you barking for more.

Draft. Pours a clear, dark reddish brown color with a foamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, toffee, hazelnut, and faint chocolate. Decent flavor with a nice balance between the malt and hops. Good bitterness in the finish.

[Tap] Pours of dark read with a thin tan head that lightly laced the glass. Aroma was slightly sweet and malty with some almond accent. Taste was complex and layered. The sweet caramel malts were first followed by a roasted nutty wave and finished with a hoppy and pine note. Finish was smooth with just the right amount of bitterness to cut the sweetness.

Fetching dark red/brown/orange. A sexy, dense light beige foam. A nice easy session nose. Balanced with hints of toffee sweetness. Woah! Deceptive aromas! Big toffee-apple flavours in the mouth. Very roasted with some brown malt liqor flavours. Comes out in the nose now... Rich with the tiniest hint of bitterness. Very drinkable if a little rich.
