Commercial Description:
Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale is our homage to the craft and heritage of America’s brewers. Recipes calling for the use of pumpkins in beer date back to early colonial times, when brewers sought to extend their supply of costly imported malt with locally grown ingredients, such as squash and "pompions." In that spirit, we brew our ale with the addition of pumpkin to the mash, along with traditional spices to create a delicious American original.

12 oz. bottle Poured cloudy amber-red with thin white head. Very pungent spicy aroma which dissipates somewhat while beer is breathing. Flavor of mild pumpkin, nutmeg, clove and cinnamon with malty front palate, a bready middle with flowery finish and slightly hoppy aftertaste. This is nice. A very ’fall’ like beer for colder weather that can stand up to heartier fare, but one might be mindful to watch the flavors while pairing.

12oz bottle poured in a lager glass. A gift from billbeer. Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale pours murky with a thin head. it is slightly more orange than the color of an oak desk (guess what kind of desk I’m drinking this beer at...). Its aroma is subtle and pleasing. I detect pumpkin and nutmeg and a slightly nutty smell. This pumpkin ale has a very smooth, almost flat body that turns out to be not flat at all. It has a very bitter taste to that I’m not terrible fond of. It’s not bitter like hops or coffee but like a vegetable rind. The finish is like seltzer water. I don’t think I care for the beer that much.

Sweet and spicy aromas, cinnamon, nutmeg, caramel malts in the aroma. Pours golden amber. Very spicy, cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg, pumpkin pie, a little heavy on the spices but still a very good pumpkin beer. I like this one, good beer to finish off the night with!

Poured a tawny-copper-orange bright hue with a medium-sized fluffy cream white head. Nose fresh gourds and fragrant, but not overwhelming spices. Probably the most enjoyable and well-balanced pumpkin beer I have ever tasted.

Pours a light gold and looks very much like a pale lager to these eyes. Small thin head that quickly dissipates. The aroma is very spicy from the pumpkin, nutmeg and cinnamon. The taste is a very distinct pumpkin flavor with a hint of cinnamon. I liked this one a lot more than I expected.

12oz. bottle - pours a deep orange shade, slight cloudy. Small head.Aroma is wonderful...full of cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, pumpkin spice with some slightly citrusy hopping going on in the background. Love it. Flavour is a little less, and the body is a little thin, but it is a very drinkable beer. Fairly sweet taste, followed by cinnamon, nutmeg and clove spicing moving toward a lightly bitter finish where some of those hops come forward. Overall, this brew is pretty intense with spices, but I like it. Too bad I spilled half the bottle on myself.

Golden-orange hazy color with miminal head. Nice cinnamon/pumkin/orange aroma. First taste is orange, then cinnamon spice and the finish has a nice kick of cloves,
