12 oz bottle shared with Dan. Pours a nice orange/light amber with a medium frothy head. Aroma is very spicy, I get the aroma of freshly grated ginger, and nutmeg in the aroma. taste is light pumpkin, malt, and lots of spices. Spices and pumpkin seem to compliment rather than dominate this beer, very good.

Bottle. Amber, with a medium white head. Aroma is heavenly pumpkin and spices associated with pumpkin pie. Flavor is pumpkin and the spices are very subdued, almost invisible in the background. Body is a little thin and watery. Hoppy/spicy aftertaste, but it doesn’t last very long. Overall, smells great, but doesn’t deliver in the flavor. Too bad, I really like the aroma.

12 oz bottle. Deep orange beer, thin white head. Sweet toasty nose, toffee, sweet cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice. Pumpkiny character. Flavour is quite subtle actually, spice, black pepper and a little bit boozy, orangey flavour towards the finish. A bit hot and overattenuated for the style. Woody spices in the finish. The spices seem to be a bit stale and old. Not one of the better pumpkin ales I’ve had.

I love pumpkin ales and this one was a solid showing. Poured a light amber-orange color with a nice and respectable head that provided decent lacing (and didn’t really last all that long). The aroma was spicey, bready, and of pumpkins (imagine that). The flavor featured nutmeg and cinnamon over a nice pumpkin base that was sweet, but not overly so. Pumpkin may have been a little strong in the flavoring department for some, but I enjoy these and was pleased with the approach. The strength of flavors were balanced by a mouthfeel and body that was slightly lighter than moderate. Good stuff.

Pours a medium orange color body with a small white head. Aroma is pumpkins, brown sugar, and other spices. Flavor is light grass with a good pumpkin taste and a lot of sweet spices. One of the better of this usually weak style.

Bottle Pours a hazy orange amber with a tiny white head. Has chuncky particles in the body. Aroma of nutmeg and punpkins. Has a lively carbination. A very sharp taste with a smooth palate. Has a good duration with a nice off bitter finish. Produces a good aftertaste. Has a good spicy flare to it. This is my first pumpkin brew and I am quite happy with it. Nice flavors and a very enjoyable ale.

Smuttynose pumpkin ale is brewed with real pumpkin puree and spices. It is an outstanding example of the style in the fact that a really excellent pumpkin ale will actually give you plenty of real pumpkin flavor, as well as nice touches of the traditional pumpkin pie spices. This makes for a perfect cool weather beer and is literally a slice of pumpkin pie in a glass. Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale pours to a deep golden to light orange color with a creamy white head and a moderate amount of carbonation. The nose is wonderful with aromas of cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove, paired with just a touch of biscuit malt aroma. The palate is firm with lots of good sweet/biscuity pale malt flavors, along with a strong undertone of squashy/spicy pumpkin flavor. Pumpkin Ale finishes with more malt and pumpkin flavor up front, then ends with spicy cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove notes, giving this beer the liquid pumpkin pie effect. Anyone who is a fan of pumpkins and pumpkin pie can not help but love this beer. Those who aren’t too crazy about either might find the spices and pumpkin flavors to be a bit too much. Stylistically as a pumpkin ale, this is a stellar example, and I would rank it right up there with the best of them. Drink this beer with a desert of vanilla ice cream. For an extra special treat mix half pumpkin ale with half Imperial or Oatmeal Stout for a liquid slice of chocolate pumpkin cheese cake.

This is a great pumkin ale, This beer pours a thin white lace that disappates quickly. The smell is pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar. The color is a nice amber very clear and nice. The taste is very smooth, it has a nice hoppy kick with each sip as well as a nice pumpkin flavor that is enhanved with some cinnamon, nutmeg, and some allspice. This is def a great pumpkin beer, this would pair very well with some roasted pork loin marinated with brown sugar, cinnamon, and some allspice to mirror the flavors in the beer and it would be great with the obvious pumpkin pie.
