Commercial Description:
Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale is our homage to the craft and heritage of America’s brewers. Recipes calling for the use of pumpkins in beer date back to early colonial times, when brewers sought to extend their supply of costly imported malt with locally grown ingredients, such as squash and "pompions." In that spirit, we brew our ale with the addition of pumpkin to the mash, along with traditional spices to create a delicious American original.

12 oz bottle courtesy of eaglefan538. Pour is orange golden hazed with a one inch off white head. Aroma of clove, cinnamon and pumpkin pie spiciness. Clean, bright, perhaps a bit much, though it is a pumpkin beer. Taste is big pumpkin, clove and black pepper. The palate is medium, grassy and drying. Decent pumpkin beer. Thanks for sending this to me Brian.

I over did it on the pumpkin ales this thanksgiving season. But this is a pretty good pumpkin ale. Most beers brewed by Smuttynose are pretty good. Has the nice copper color and refreshing crisp palate. Typical pumpkin spice taste but still pretty decent.

Poured with a sizable white head. The flavor is dominated by pumpkin and is on the bitter side. Interesting, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to drink this again.

Pours an orange copper with a very small head and noticeably high level of carbonation. Aroma heavy with spice, yeast, mustiness, and some sour malt. Flavor is interesting- not too sweet like most autumn based ales, but almost on the bitter side. Not particularly pleasant, but certainly unique and curious. The spice makes it more palatable, but this is one of Smutty’s stranger creations. Not bad, but no where near the top of the list coming from their brewery.

Courtesy of Sea Bass. Pours deep gold with copper core and thin white head. The aroma is sweetness, pumpkin, faint spices and Belgian candi sugar. The taste is big sweetness bringing up pumpkin notes, mild spices, sugar sweet malts, a moderate level of spicy hop ting and some fruity esters. Pretty good brew.

aroma is of a pumpkin pie, dark golden color, the hops overpower the taste of the pumpkin spice though

Hazy copper orange. Hoppy with faint pumpkin and spice flavors. Good carbonation medium bodied. Not all that exciting to me, however. No flavor really jumps out.
