CaptainCougar (4637), Rockville, Maryland, USA May 10, 2008 Slightly hazy orange pour has a thin, stringy-lacing white head. Aroma of fresh pumpkin and cinnamon spice with a touch of doughy yeast. Body starts with a big pumpkin flavor and some crisp bittering hops and spices. Finishes crisp and bittersweet with some black peppery notes. A pretty decent pumpkin ale.
OldRaspy (276), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Sep 5, 2008 Had at the brewery, they were bottling it and a couple of bottles got pulled off the line just before capping. Poured a hazy yellow with a beige head. Aroma was of cloves and cinnamon with a hint of nutmeg. Flavor was a mild pumpkin a good malt backbone and a hop bitterness in the finish. oh6gdx (5903), Vaasa, Finland Sep 5, 2008 Cask@GBBF2008 (my notes said ABV 5.1%). Slightly hazy yellowish orange colour, with small white head. Nice lace. Aroma is spices, some fruits and pumpkin pie. Flavour is very much the same, more spicy than of pumpkin though. Nothing that exciting. RunDWP (159), San Jose, California, USA Sep 4, 2008 Bottle. Just didn’t work for me very well. Couldn’t really detect much of an aroma, and I certainly didn’t detect any pumpkin in it. Nice lacing on the glass. Taste for me was a bit muddled, heavy, with malt and some sourness. Couldn’t really taste much pumpkin! I’ve heard a lot of good things about Smuttynose, so I think I’ll try something else from them. Arayaga2 (755), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 1, 2008 Orange with thin white head. Nice nutmeg pumpkin aroma carries over somwhat heavily into the taste. Dry with medium carbonation. $2/12oz Bungalo22 (282), Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA Aug 30, 2008 I normally love all Smuttynose but this one just missed the mark. It smelled like pumpkin and spices. The taste is where it looses me. I normally like a good pumpkin ale but this tastes like you were eating dried spices - literally. It felt like I had herbs and spices in my mouth that I was chewing. maybe I had a bad one? I’’ll have to go back to this.
