Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Nov 7, 2009 Pours deep chocolate brown, rich looking body.Chocolate malt in nose. And the mouthfeel is richer than avarage. A great malting experience, with secondary toasting and chocolate. Very drinkable.
Bottle from New Hampshire trip. ucusty (1871), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Aug 19, 2009 Bottle from state line liquors in Elkton, MD. Clear brown pour with a thin off white head and spotty lace. I wasn’t expecting much from this beer until I got a whiff of all the subtle complexities. Toffee, toast, coffee, and fruits on the nose. Full bodied with a slick mouth-feel. Brown sugar, oak, espresso, caramel, and raisins. Dry alcoholic finish. BigBen2120 (688), Derry, New Hampshire, USA Aug 17, 2009 22oz bomber from The Lighthouse in Manchester, Maine. Pours a translucent copper body with virtually no head. Caramel, chocolate, toffee, and raisins dominate the aroma. Raisin and toffee are strong parts of the flavor, with some caramel, citrus, chocolate, maybe hints of a peat like flavor. Full bodied bordering on viscous with moderate carbonation. Definitely a sipper for sure. Overall, a tasty sipper great for a cold winter night like tonight. Good stuff. Duhast500 (176), , Massachusetts, USA Jul 30, 2009 Poured into a tasting glass from the tap.
The color is a dark amber to a very dark brown with a offwhite head.
The smell is fruity, deeply malty, a hint of caramel.
The taste has brown suagr flavor, roasted malt, and a bit sweet. There also hints of hops and toast.
This beer has a nice feel to it. Nicely carbinated and quite mellow BREWMUSKCLES (1062), New Jersey, USA Jul 14, 2009 medium brown caramel colored ale it is slick and appears so with suspended bubbles. barley malt powered and fresh tasting it is more like a malt liquer with the palate. some rum and alcohol with little bit of light brown head. i suppose one could say it is a bit toasty with caramel touches to the flavor. satisfying. BeerBlockaid (538), Jacksonville, Florida, USA Jul 9, 2009 Olive on the cover. 12 fl oz bottle. I guess this is the right one. Labels haphazardly put on. I don’t like brown ales. I am leaving a biased review. Brown color, good carb, head dissipates rather quickly. Taste is rather fishy, like they might have had the old dog take a few laps in the vat before bottling. Seriously. Caramel, some roasted malts, but overall, rather uninspired and disappointing especially coming from this brewer. Couldn’t finish it. Thin and unremarkable. Goodgrief (1144), Middletown, Delaware, USA Jul 1, 2009 Murky ruby brown color with nice head and lacing. Strong aroma of caramel and brown sugar. The flavor was that of caramel and brown sugar as well with some noticeable oak presence. It was really sweet. Normally, I’d say this was a bad thing, but I prefered this one on the colder side as it seemed bordering on syrupy when it got really warm. Better to share with a buddy as a whole bottle of this was a bit much. Overall, I liked it, though not sure I would seek out again as I prefer a stronger hop presence in a beer this sweet. michael-pollack (2602), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 20, 2009 22oz. Bottle: Faint aroma of malts, peat, brown sugar, caramel, and a hint of oak. Poured brown/amber in color with a small, creamy, tan head that lasted throughout. Cloudy. Lightly sparkling. Full of tiny, and a few small, particles throughout. Flavor is light to medium sweet. Tastes of brown sugar, malts, slight alcohol, caramel, slight toffee, and slight oak. Medium body. Slick, oily texture. Soft to average carbonation. Sweet, oaky, brown sugar finish. Disappointing.
