Yves (987), Beerse, Belgium Nov 7, 2009 Black beer with a small white head and only few carbonation. Coffee like aroma with some malty roasted touches. Full creamy palate. Finish is bitter though rather soft ending. BroSpud (583), , Massachusetts, USA Nov 1, 2009 12oz bottle. Well done porter. Pours very dark with a slight head that lingers. Good combination of malt, coffee and chocolate tastes. Alex420 (16), Rome, Italy Oct 27, 2009 Tap @ brasserie420
Compact foam that seems pulled with nitrogen but isn’t!
A bit yeasty but one of the first pints of a new just-agitated keg. So i’m sure it’ll clarify with time. The foam is surely long lasting. Tipical creamy, roasted robust porter nose with a scent of black olives.
On the palate licorice and earthy notes with a well established burnt and resiny bitter. Black olives as well.
A bit of CSA as the Smuttynose IPA tasted earlier, but still not too strong to bother.
Nice silky body, tapped well with the right amount of co2. Overall an easy drinking balanced beer. ogivlado (3033), Zagreb, Croatia Oct 27, 2009 Tap at Beer Temple, Amsterdam. Black coloured, medium sized brown head, roasted coffee in the nose. Roasted malt, coffee and chocolate with notes of dried fruits and hops. Smooth, mild carbonation and bitter finish. Not so Robust but still good porter. bluejacket74 (7), Reynoldsburg, Ohio, USA does not count Oct 24, 2009 12 ounce bottle. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours dark brown with a half inch brown head. Head retention and lacing are both good. Aroma is nice, it smells like roasted malt, bittersweet chocolate, coffee, and some molasses. The taste is similar to the aroma, it tastes like coffee, bittersweet chocolate, burnt malt/smoke and roasted malt. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s creamy and silky with good carbonation. Drinkability is good, it’s smooth and easy to drink. This porter lives up to its name, it is quite robust and enjoyable. I’d definitely buy this again the next time I get a chance to.
altonbrownd (1862), Amsterdam, Netherlands Oct 24, 2009 On tap at Bier Tempel, A’dam. Dark black with heavy tan head. Nice malty and chocolate nose. Taste of malts, wheat and lots of chocolate. Very nice, just right porter. Hats off. Rustyham (545), miami, Florida, USA Oct 14, 2009 a surprisingly great, strong, extremely porter-tasting porter. Very dark malts with a strong roasted black coffee flavor that goes down very smoothly. This is by far the darkest porter I have ever seen. Fantastic. Bottle at 8 oz Burger Bar on Miami Beach. brewski519 (393), Morrisville, North Carolina, USA Oct 12, 2009 Sampled at WBF in Durham - I always see this porter at my local brew haven and have been meaning to try it - well, finally I did and I now wish I hadn’t taken so long. Pour is dark chocolately color with is exactly where the aroma begins - chocolate, roasted coffee, malts and some smokiness. Great taste of chocolate coffee balanced out by the malts and a nice creamy mouthfeel. I’ll be picking up a 6 of this next time out.
