Brown/black body, thoroughly opaque, and a decent size tan head. The flavor is roasted coffee, dark chocolate, fairly sweet overall. The finish has a bittering from the roasted malts, and a modest bit of hops. Excellent representation of one of my favorite styles. sallad (111), USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 4, 2009 Nearly opaque black with only the slightest twinges of crimson-brown around the edges. Chocolate milk colored head that fades rapidly, but leaves a nice lace. Bitter chocolate, toffee and ash, faint hint of black cherry in the nose. Full bodied, sweetened coffee, with a long crisp finish of burnt cocoa. Best of the style I’ve ever had! durhambeer (1224), Durham, USA

Nice mix of sweet lactose and roasty malts on nose and tongue. Sweet coffee and notes of chocolate as well as sweet cream. Nutty hints as well. Light silky palate. Quite good. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 1, 2009 Pours a silky black with a very small head. Aroma is delicious - caramel, nuts, roasted malt, some hoppiness. Taste is the same plus chocolate and coffee. Very drinkable and enjoyable. I’ll be drinking this one regularly. zappafan99 (462), South Carolina, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 1, 2009 Taste 2/9 Bottle. Looks: Black with tan foam. Aroma: Chocolate and coffee malt roasts. Nice, but nothing spectacular. Taste: A good clean, rich thin bodied porter. Not very dry. Good to drink but nothing awe inspiring either. Parrothead (187), Ephrata, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jan 30, 2009 12oz bottle, pours a dark brown...OK, call it black, with a big tan head. Nose of licorice, chocolate, roasted malt. Oh my....smooth as silk, a great moouthfeel. Just enough hops to set it off, but they are definately there in back. Let this one warm up a bit before drinking - DO NOT drink this at the same temp as you would a cold Bud after work. Great stuff. Would love to try this on tap, or better yet, on cask. jeff789 (411), Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jan 24, 2009 Pours a really dark brown with a tan head that leaves a bit of watery lacing... Aroma is roasty with a touch of vanilla, chocolate, and coffee... Taste is quite bland with notes of coffee, and chocolate... Thin body, not much in the finish... This continues the trend of me trying to find a smuttynose 12oz beer that i genuinely enjoy... watson1977 (277), , Pennsylvania, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jan 23, 2009 looked like a nice porter...pitch black with a light mocha head and a bit of lacing. mild roasted aroma with bakers chocolate, coffee, and a touch of citrusy hops. flavor had notes of coffee and roasted malt followed by chocolate and subtle citrus. very thin mouthfeel for a porter with a bitter cheap espresso finish. not very robust at all!
